How

Robin Hood could have been based on one of several living people. One of these is most certainly the famous Robert of Loxley, whose name is listed in the Doomsday book.

The author heard local stories told of a Hooded man that had been banished by the sheriff for shooting royal cattle and had spent his life taking money from greedy land owners and distributing it to the poor of the land who were struggling to pay the taxes imposed by the sheriff. He added elements to the story, such as the 'merry men' and re-told it.

However, Robin himself, the fictional character and the men he was supposed to be based on, were utterly English, though they may have spoken French if in the aristorcracy under Norman rule.

The fictional character Robin Hood, was in fact based on a real life character who alledgedly robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.

The real man, Renné Toulebt, was of course french in case you hadn't guessed. Apparently he lived only a few years prior to the creation of Robin Hood.

How about that?

I think it's because Robin Hood was a fictional character made up by a French bloke, or maybe it was because it was a film and had a talking donkey in it. I just don't know.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Impressive control panel
