How many joysticks have you been through?

I have lost count, cheapo ones, expensive ones, my favourite was probably that "bug" joystick, which clicked reassuringly when you waggled it, or hit the fire button. Very nice that one was. Didn't last long though.

However, much as I love 'em, they don't half get a beating from me.

If I'm winning I'll try harder, pushing they joystick to it's physical limit, the blood draining from my hands as I squeeze harder and yank the plastic phallic symbol from side to side trying to eek every last ounce of high-level performance from it.

If I'm losing my game, eventually, immature tendencies will mean that I must throw the peripheral at the furthest wall from me in utter contempt for it. Once. I got so mad and frustrated at losing that I ripped the stick from it's base unit. Probably during a hardcore bout of StreetFighter II on my Amiga 500.

I like waggling my joystick, no doubt, but the best performance I have had so far is from my trusty PS joypad, lasted me at least two years, not a complaint. I still throw it across the room sometimes, but it always forgives me, and is always ready for the next round of button bashing punishment at my hands.

OK... So I asked for it with the title, and I employed a certain Dominic Diamond-type schoolboy humour there, but hey, it's a serious subject.

The amount of battering your joystick takes can seriously affect your gameing performance...

Should I just give up and get my coat on this subject?
