In no attempt to sound like a broken record: Yep - it's true. I found out yesterday afternoon and after days of denying it, Steps have finally caved in. Ceefax reports:

The pop group Steps have announced they
have split and are planning to pursue
solo projects.
The five-member group, who have sold
more than twelve million records,
announced the split in a statement.
"After five incredible years, we've
decided it's time to move on to new
challenges," band members Faye, Claire,
Lisa, H and Lee said.
"We are looking forward to making our
next plans," the group said.
Wahoo that Steps have split, but they are still in the music industry and that means 5 more crappy pop albums each year. Let's hope they crash and burn like the Spice Girls!

What a surprise, they've split!! All pop/dance groups do that eventually. It's like a toy falling apart, cuz they're manufactured! It can't survive forever, and many toys now seem annoying, as you grow out of them!
yes, all bands/groups/acts do split up; only a rare few stay together... and they cant go on forever - elton john seems to think he can :0( - anyway hurray steps have split up, boo hoo there going solo, well actually no, yippee we can know all see how crap they really are and then laught at them on tv with all there money....... how ironic this world is.

BTW the best xmas present ever is the 18" Ash from Evil Dead collectors item I bought my girlfriend. It responds to movement and says phrases from the films! It works both ways as well - if she kept it, then it made her the coolest chic in the planet, but if she dumped me for it then I got an huge Ash dolly! C'est super.
