I live in the U.S., and I just got a set of DVDs (movies) from the UK for Christmas. My PS2 says that the disk cannot be played due to "regional restrictions." The DVD is Region 2 coded. I tried to change my settings to say that I am in England, but it didn't work. What can I do to play this DVD?
Sorry to ask a question that has probably been asked before, but I am really needing help on this.

It just cepends on what you want. Sometimes you all will get special DVDs that we will never seen. It's like with Shenmue 2, you all get for the Dreamcast but we don't so that's one reason why we do this.

I think there is a good reason for Americans to buy region 2. We have Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 1,2 and 3 on DVD as well as Angel season 1. But America will have the first season of Buffy on DVD soon and at £25 its cheaper than region 2.

yeah, region 2 DVDs are crap. Take shrek for example. our version is only 1 disc, but for about the same price you can get the 2 disc region one version.

And one of the biggest pi$stakes is the simpsons DVD boxset. £30+ on region 2, while you can get it for under £20 on region 1.

Or were the DVDs a present from somebody in Britain who hadn`t yet even heard of the light, let alone seen it?

You live in the US, and you wanted Region 2 DVDs... WHY??? :-) I can`t see a single advantage in region 2 versions.

Can anybody tell me what I`ve missed here?

Now Adrian I like the idea of getting region 2 DVDs but I think that I'll stick with our release dates.

The option to change it to England does nothing, I have no clue on what it does. The only way to play Region 2 DVD's is to get Region-X or Action Replay 2 V2. Its funny how Americans want region 2 DVD's when us Brits want region 1 DVD's. Maybe we should switch regions, so that we get all the new DVD's months ahead of America instead of the other way round.

I'm from the U.S. too. Your going to have fun fooling with this stuff.

Okay, first of all changing your settings won't help you out any. What you have to do is search for either a Region X or a action replay 2 V2. These things give the PS2 the codes that they need to play and read the DVD.

So, just go and get one of these things, they are really handy if import alot of DVD's. If I get a chance I'll try to find you a website where you can get one of these.
