Descendents- 'Everything Sucks'
An awesome CD from a classic pop-punk band. As well as a few classic love songs it includes a variety of themes, from the law on 'Caught' to drinking coffee to wake up on 'Coffee Mug'. There is a huge contrast in the songs here. There are short, less than one minute blasts, slow love songs, and hard edged songs. The final track 'Thank You' is basically a tribute to all the bands that don't get 'big' but play for the music. There is even a bonus instrumental track, which sounds like a jamming session. An awesome CD. I'd give it 9/10
GreenDay- 'Nimrod'
This highlights some of GreenDays most diverse material. There is classic pop punk goodness mixed in with the slow hit single 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)', the fast and angry 'Take Back' and 'Platypus (I Hate You)' and the light hearted 'King For a Day'. There is even a relaxing track, which has sounds like waves crashing on a beach, called 'Last Ride In'. Overall a great, diverse punk album, which includes some of GreenDays greatest ever songs.
Nerve- 'Psycho Poetry'
If you like pop-punk, you will love this little gem. It is a seven track EP from the Scottish band 'Nerve'. The comparison to GreenDay is obvious, as the vocalist does sound quite a bit like Billie Joe of GreenDay, and the bands both have a similar style. This includes classic pop-punk love songs with a twist. There is a cover of 'Cheers' (the themetune of the TV sitcom of the same name), and the final track is a burst of energy called 'F.O.A.D' (another comparison to GreenDay here, as the final track on 'Dookie' was called F.O.D.) F.O.A.D. stands for F*** Off And Die, and the song is a very good one.
Anyway, that is my review of some decent pop-punk, so throw away your old Blink CDs, burn those Sum41 tapes, and recycle those New Found Glory Minidiscs, and get some of these gems!
Don't really listen to it mind.
I expect I can get it another way...
But I will be surprised if anything beats 'Rhythms' from the Sum 41 album, which is pure class.
But I'll try 'em out anyway. {:)
Oh, and I got the new Fugazi album too, (maybe you saw my review of it?) and I want to get some of their older stuff.
PS. If you like Descendents you should try ALL. The same band, just not Milo on vocals. They are pretty good, but not quite up there with the Descendents. There is a live album, 'All Live + One' featuring an ALL live show, and a bonus CD with a whole Descendents show (about 20 songs I think) for FREE!!!
> Descendents- 'Everything Sucks'
They are one of the seminal punk bands, along with Fugazi. Long live the memory of the Descendants. I completely agree with what you wrote and hopefully some of the Blink 41 fans will try some out... come on guys take 20 minutes of your life to download a descendants track and then I want to see some Descendants vs. Blink topics going up!
