Right, I have:

A P2 400 with NT
A P 66 with 98

and I could get a P 100 with 98...

I want to set 2 of these up so that i an share a modem between them... what is the best option?

Win2K is my preferred choice of Windows product.

Oh, and win2k is by far the most stable version I've used, and I'm getting better gaming performance than I did under winME.

No, I mean generally Windows does stuff for you without telling you what.

Yeah but rob, most people dont know how to network, so for most people thats a good thing. Anyone else should have enough sense to either work round it or use 2K.

I really hate that about Windows.

In theory, NT or 2K should be the most stable. That's doesn't mean they're stable though.

2K is by far the easiest version of windows that I've used to network with - I upgraded my win95 and 98 boxen to it just to make it less painful. They give you much more control over what you're doing, whereas 98 will assume no knowledge, set it all up for you, but not tell you what it's done.

Many say 98 is the most stable of all the Windows. As for networking, yeah course it can. I have two networks, one here and one at work. All the PCs use Windows 98, only my laptop uses XP. It is a bit fiddly to work with, and I'm told 2000 is a bit easier, but its fine if you kick it a bit and work out what your doing before you do it.

So, what about his windows system, I didn't think 98 was able to network although it has some network programs, I think it's best to get off 98 anyway, less crashing.

Not bad prices, although I could do a two PC network for about £18, where as SR want £50 for a kit.

SRsell network cables, hubs and cards, they have some good prices on them too.
