I can't understand why gaming still isn't fashionable to some. I mean, it demands quite a lot of money like most fashionable stuff (e.g. Versace), needs care and practice to obtain skill (like football) and the games nowadays are amazing to behold. Technology has gone so far that it's simply unbelievable how people cannot seem to enjoy what we do.
For me, just the plain notion of videogames is breathtaking. Not only can we watch what's on screen (like films), we can also take control and alter the final outcome. Now, when gaming first began, this moral was the only thing people were bothered about. Then as time went by, gameplay gradually became more important, so we could enjoy the journey in a game more before reaching the end. This itself would still have been an outstanding achievement for gaming, but now we even have revolutionary graphics, which to be honest are getting more life-like anually.
Technology is much appreciated and well established today. Almost the whole of the world's population has a mobile phone, MP3 player, Mini-disc player, stereo, PC etc etc, but still computer games are treated as the minority of technology. The recent next-gen consoles received a lot of advanced therapy to try and woo more audiences, in which they did, but this amount just doesn't amount to what it really should be. Computer games and consoles are much more impressive than the majority of popular technological gear today. Not just that, gaming is looking like the center of mass potential to interlink with all kinds of things like mobile phones, MP3 players and so on thanks to the newly introduced online capabilities for consoles. This is the main reason why I think quite a lot of people are being prejudice towards gaming and gamers, like us.
But if it really gets bad like if someone tries to take the mick because of what I like to do, then I simply laugh in their faces because I know that they're really the ones missing out, seeing as the future of gaming is looking very, very promising. Things are discovered nearly every day to try and make the world a more sufficient place, but we gamers have it a lot better off because it's technology that's getting the most look-in, even by scientists who already have found that never-ending games are actually possible. Also, Japan and America hold a number of futuristic houses, which for example allow you to download music from the internet straight into your car, do your shopping from the comfort of your own sofa without using the phone and the houses can even do the shopping for you, restricting you to the right foods if it knows you're on a diet. So it's almost undoubted that consoles and gaming in general will play a big part in some of these technological enhancements.
Very soon, we will all be able to play online with each other away from our PCs using ready-made characters in certain games, but I'm sure that one day we ourselves will be able to meet eye-to-eye with each other over the net, even if I'm in Helsinki and you're in Sydney. Forums will never be the same, that's for sure.
As you have probably guessed, I rate gaming very highly, but it's simply because of how enjoyable it really is. It's one of the best remedies for getting rid of boredom and the games up until have been truly brilliant. I can't count how many times I've said "WoaH!" and "That was amazing!" in games because they just never cease to amaze me. Also, I think the competition between consoles makes gaming fashionable as well, knowing who is leading in sales and all that.
I have a dream, that one day gaming will be very well known and accepted all over the world, just like Pot Noodle. I could sit here and say "Screw them if they don't want to listen", but that would be clearly the wrong attitude to take. These people who unlike us do not play games because of how sad it apparently is need to be shown the ropes, so that they too can share in our joy. Does gaming need to be fashionable? Yes. So that people will know that we truly do have style!
