Call me slow but I heard Amerie's "Gotta Work" single for the first time yesterday, you can see the video/listen to the mp3 here.
I usually hate Soul/R&B/Hip-Hop (I'm more the Green Day type), but her style is so reminiscent of the stuff that flew about in the 1980s that I just became a fan.
Some people are saying she's the next Janet, personally she reminds me more of Diana Ross in terms of vocals. I guess her looks (Korean mum and Afro-American dad) helped sway me a little, but I can understand why she's so high up in the UK R&B Chart. (Number 2 last time I checked).
Anyone know any other artists with similar style/sound that I can check up on to start building up a collection? Ta.
