Eastern mystery

This story I made may be a bit long but I hope you like it.

Walking down the street Gary was thinking to him self how boring he’s life was compared to the lives of other people living in his area, little did he know that was about to change. As he was walking home from college he decided to take a different route home and walked through a backstreet that was located about half a mile out of town near where he lived. As he was walking through an ally he passed what looked like the back of a Japanese antique shop that had Japanese lanterns hanging from the small pouch type structure that was hanging over the shop backdoor, there were also different coloured mats that were rolled up and propped up against the shop wall. As Gary was starting to walk away he heard a voice from behind him say “so what do you think of them?” Gary turned around and saw an elderly Japanese man standing in the ally way holding a lantern just like the ones hanging over the door “The lanterns are very pretty” said Gary “yes they are, my daughter makes them using the crafting skills that she learnt when she was younger” said the Japanese man. “What is your name?” asked the Japanese man “my name is Gary” replied Gary

As they carried on talking the weather started to deteriorate and it began to rain heavily, “I must get these lanterns and rugs into the shop will you please help me?” said the Japanese man “yes” replied Gary, they both got to work taking down the colourful lanterns that were hanging over the backdoor porch and placed them carefully into a box, Gary picked up the rugs and they both entered the shop. “Thank you so much sir my daughter’s lanterns are very precious to me how can I repay you?” said the Japanese man “there is no need I was glad to help” replied Gary.

After a while the Japanese man gets an idea about repayment and starts to look around in an old dusty chest that is in the corner of the room, he finds what he’s looking for and brings what looks like a collection of old scrolls and puts them on the table in front of Gary. “ahh here it is” said the Japanese man as he removes one of the scrolls and spreads it across the table, as Gary looks at the scroll he sees a picture of an island just of the coast of Japan that had a cross marked on it “this looks like a treasure map” said Gary while continuing to scan the scroll “yes it is but what treasure I don’t know” replied the Japanese man “why are you showing me this map for” said Gary with a puzzled look on his face “I’m getting old now and unable to do the things I was once able to do when I was younger but you are a young man with a kind heart, maybe you could locate the area where the cross is and find what is buried there” said the Japanese man. After a moment of silence Gary decides to take the Japanese mans offer and travel to Japan where the island is located “oh good I’m glad you have decided to go I will arrange you to meet a woman there by the name of Yunu on the island she is a friend of mine and she will be your guild there” said the Japanese man.

After a few days of planning and travel Gary reaches the coast of the Japanese island and is greeted by an attractive middle aged Japanese woman wearing a long black leather coat and tall black boots that reach almost up to her knees. “Are you Yunu?” said Gary while eyeing her up “yes I’m Yunu and you must be Gary the kind gentleman who helped my farther in Britain” as she finishes her sentence Gary remembered that the Japanese man had referred to Yunu as his friend not his daughter, was the old man hiding something from him? “are you alright Gary?” asked Yunu “err oh yes err it was a long journey” replied Gary “yes you must be tired come I will take you to the hotel where I’m staying” said Yunu. Gary agrees and they go into town where the hotel is, by the time they sort out their rooms it was getting dark.
As Gary was in bed he started thinking about what the Japanese man had said to him, he recalled that the Japanese man hadn’t told him his name or why his daughter was involved. As he carried on thinking he slowly feel asleep.

As the morning approached Gary woke up with beams of sunlight shining on him through the window, he got out of bed and noticed his bag was opened, as he investigated his bag he noticed the scroll with the map had gone. As Gary started to search around the room he couldn’t find the scroll anywhere, Yunu must have stolen it. As Gary left his room he went to the hotel check in desk to ask them if Yunu had left “yes sir she checked out yesterday and said you were ill and must not be disturbed” said the hotel desk clerk “but I haven’t been ill I checked in yesterday and went to sleep in my room” said Gary with a puzzled expression on his face “no sir you checked in the day before yesterday you were in your room all day yesterday and madam Yunu told us you were very ill and must not be disturbed.” Gary was puzzled how could he have slept a whole day? He must have been drugged by Yunu so she could sneak off with the scroll map. Both confused and disappointed Gary checks out the hotel, without the map he couldn’t go on so he decided to go to the airport.

Back in Britain Gary goes to the Japanese mans shop, as he approaches the backdoor he hears the laughter of a little girl in the shop he goes to the door to find the Japanese man playing a card game with a young teenaged girl “ah Gary my friend please come in and join us” shouts the Japanese man. Gary enters the shop “Sukula this is Gary, Gary this is my daughter Sukula” said the Japanese man with a smile “this is your daughter?” replied Gary in a shocked voice “yes she was kidnapped by a group of diamond smugglers in Japan and you meet one of them in Japan I believe” said the Japanese man. Gary sits down. The Japanese man brings a drink over for Gary “let me explain, a few months ago I picket up the scroll in Japan that was left in a pub, as no one around me seem to own it I picket up the scroll and took it back with me to Britain but the smugglers tracked me down and kidnapped my daughter, in exchange for my daughter they wanted the map back” said the Japanese man “I’m sorry I used you Gary” said that Japanese with a sorry voice “it’s ok I understand but there is one thing bothering me, who is Yunu?” asked Gary, the Japanese man starts to laugh “I’m Yunu” replies the Japanese man.

One of the smugglers took the map not the old man, the smuggler used the name Yunu to gain Garys trust, guess there are one or two holes in my story :s

Good story but why didn't he just take the map back himself?
