This sequel to the first free-roaming infamous game does take a lot of the basic gameplay away and hype it up a bit. For instance when you start the game you have most, if not all of your electric powers (yes this guy is a superhero). So new powers and abilites are added. But this makes cole way too powerful when fighting enemies, so to deal with this new level of power that you possess new bosses and more resiliant and powerful enemies are added. This builds on the already enjoyable gameplay style of the first game yet does not put it to shame, so to speak, for riding on rails and the basic firing of the electric bolts is still a blast to experiance. Shocking a band of enemies, blowing up cars in streets and shooting those fun sticky bombs are still as cool as they were in the first. As a free-roaming game you run around the city of New Marais, going to various story or side missions. But what if travelling is not that enjoyable, and rather is a boring and annoying thing that you just have to do. Well unlike other free-roam games, infamous 2 provides electric rails and especially an advanced flying ability to take the point of travel to a whole new level, easily gliding across 10's of street blocks in a few seconds. While slowly climbing up a tall building is quite pestering, so it is best to stay up top of the buildings. Also the fun of searching for those sneaky dead drops and blast shards are still there and provide a fun way to spend the time while not playing a mission.
As most sequels do, the graphics are increased. The beautiful city and detailed explosions will grab your attention. But the difference to the first is not that big. Nonetheless you will enjoy the graphics and fight scenes are a pleasure to watch.
Like the first, infamous 2 provides a thrilling story-line which at the end it twists like hell which leaves you saying: "Wow, i did not see that coming". You take on the character of Cole Magreth (I like thats how you spell it), an electric man as he's known. In the first installment of the game you are transformed from a small-time delievery guy to a superhero by being asked to open a package which is called the ray sphere. This sphere take the energy from others and puts into a person who has a certain gene called the "conduit gene". They absorb energy and develop abilities. Enough techno mumbo jumbo, you basically are destined to fight this beast, a very powerful monster that you must prepare yourself to batte it. As the game progresses the beast gets closer to New Marais, the city in which you will do you superhero stuff, eventually reaches the city. I hope i have intrigued you because it has a literally inspiring ending.
Ok, so the value of the game is judged by the time it takes to play and the replay value. Well I can tell you that the game is definetly will take you at least 10-20 hours one time around. But the karma options (you know, to kill people or help them {so essentially there is two endings and two ways to progress through the game}), the pretty challenging trophies, the collectables (blast shards, dead drops) and especially the user-generated portion of the game will keep you going a while, at least another 15 hours (in my case anyway, you may suck more than me).
Now I know what your thinking, whats the catch? Whats wrong with the game? Well the only things frustrated me when playing was the travelling and a few gliches. Yes I did say travelling was fun, but you dont get the advanced thrusters until a little while into the game. Also in the powerecd down sections of the city have rails and electric lines but are not powered up, so you just walk across them. Also there is a few places (especially high points on the map) were glitching are frequent, so in some regions the gameplay isn't that smooth.
So a few bad points but overall its a great sequel that provides hours of fun and some great user-generated potential. Overall score: 9.2.
