How do you define plagairism (and how is it spelt?)? I saw a logo for something the other day and it made me think if I just tweaked it here and there in my favour, then I could use it for something. but does that mean I copied? I could say it inspired me, but i'd just sound like a tw-t. On the other hand, does anyone know? I doubt it will become high profile, so no-one will see it. Does that make it alright?

No, I don't think it's plagerism.

Where the Hell did you get these figures?... According to a recent survey by Forrester, there are only 300+ million sites in the world that are indexed? Thats a lot less than 3 Billion? As for Logo duplication...

Untill it's registered as a trade mark or some form of copyright is obtained, duplication is perfectly legal. You only run into problems with type faces!!

I'm off for my Xmas break now... popping in on the 27.28th as I'm working those two days... until then

Merry Xmas everyone!

There are only 500,000,000,000 different combinations of logos at 200x150x24bit. That's 500 billion. Google indexes 3 billion sites. Now, 500 billion accounts for ALL possible combinations, including all forms of static. Now, if you say only 1/100 are coherent, that leaves you with approximately (and that's a BIG approximately) 5 billion different logo combinations. Also consider a lot of people stick to 8-bit as well.

Therefore, the chances of a logo being duplicated exactly or very very nearly across the whole of the web are really quite high. It's bound to happen some time.

No, I don't think it's plagerism. It's not like it does anyone any harm, and the original owner probably likes the idea you copied it anyway.
