So if I got a reservation for one of these for Christmas, I wouldn't be too pleased, mainly because of my parents spending 20 quid to reserve the thing, and then spending a further 299 on the console itself, excluding games and accessories. Actually I wouldn't be that bothered if I got a reservation or not.
With the X-box and Gamecube stil to arrive, that leaves the PS2 to sell shed loads more units than anything else. Nearly everyone I know is asking for one.
But a flaw. If you don't reserve one, you don't get one. But alas, a solution. Next year, on your birthday, ask for an X-box or Gamecube, and ask for the other at Christmas. Sorted

You put 20 pounds down now and you've paid 20 pounds towards your machine.
The idea is that you feel less inclined to back out and lose your 20 quid, meaning that SR can't be messed around, and only people who have a real intention of buying will reserve the machine.
1. The number of consoles required to be produced. After all, Europe is much greater in size than the US and Japan put together!!
2. The number of launch titles required. The Japan launch had just 3, the US had more, and the European launch will see an EVEN GREATER number of titles available in March!! And that number has also got to fill THE WHOLE of Europe!! We're probably talking MILLIONS of GameCube games (not all different of course!!) on the European launch date!!!
It's gunna be quite some launch date, and the anticipation is also a strategy Nintendo like to use on us Europeans, to help their consoles sell more.
The same can also be said for the X-box. But they've already announced the 14th of March to be their launch date.
