GOALKEEPER

Peter Schmeichel

The old boy has still got everything he used to have at Manchester United great reflexes, determination, aggression and still has very good shot stopping. From what I have seen so far this season Schmeichel is back and at his best. He has not got the best defence in front of him but he still does not let much get past him. He has achieved nearly everything you can as a goalkeeper but still shows great desire to win more. Another great attribute Schmeichel has is he demands the box really well and organises his defence in front of him excellently.

DEFENDERS

Christian Ziege

So far this season Ziege has played brilliantly for Tottenham and has scored quite a few goals. I had to put him in the best eleven for this season because he has played so well since coming to Tottenham. He shows great understanding between team mates and as a result of this his link up play is very good. He also has very good defensive skills and is a great dead ball specialist. Ziege also has good pace which is essential when defending against very fast players and is also a good attribute to have when going forward.

Rio Ferdinand

Has been as solid as a rock at the back for Leeds this season and is also coming up with the odd goal for Leeds. He has great strength and his height is an advantage when defending against big strong players. Hardly ever puts a foot wrong and when he has the ball he looks very comfortable bringing it out of defence.

Marcel Desailly

Another solid player at the back who cannot seem to do anything wrong. His tackling ability is very good and hardly loses a challenge. He is a strong player and really fast which is two very good things to have as a defender. Not many strikers get past him or win any headers against him. He does everything comfortable and also looks confident bringing the ball out of defence.

Ian Harte
Yet another magnificent left back in England, shame he is not English. This player is truly quality. He shows great agility, strength and determination and also has good pace. He also is another great dead ball specialist and can also put in some great crosses. He shows good aggression that is controlled and rarely gets booked. Ian Harte is also very good at taking on opponents as well as tackling them. He also shows great understanding with his team mates.

MIDFIELDERS (this was hard to choose)

David Beckham

David is an outstanding player who can do almost anything on the pitch. He can score goals, create space, track back and also set up goals. Since getting the England captaincy at the start of the season Beckham has matured into a great player. He has great crossing ability and is a master at dead balls. He shows unbelievable determination to win and has a great engine that never seems to stop. He keeps going all the way to the final whistle and always can not wait to play the next game. He likes to be involved in every game, which shows his great determination. I have nothing but praise for this person because I feel he is one of the best if not the best footballer in the world.

Juan Sebastian Veron

Another great talent who cannot seem to do anything wrong on the pitch. His passing ability is phenomenal and shows outstanding desire to win. Juan has settled into the Premiership really well and looks like an excellent buy for Manchester United. He can also come up with a few goals. Veron can also volley the ball really well. He shows brilliant awareness to pick out players and also links up really well with his team mates. Veron also has tremendous skill and uses it to good effect and he also shows great team work.

Steven Gerrard

A quality player who can pass the ball really well at short and long distances. He is still young but it feels as if he has been around for ages because he has made a really good impact on the Premiership. Gerrard comes up with a few spectacular goals and also some tap ins. He is another midfielder who can tackle really well and also track back excellently. He is strong and a very competitive player. He work rate is excellent and his fitness is excellent. The only really downfall is he is injury prone.

Patrick Vieira

There was some speculation of Patrick leaving at the start of the season but he did not and he has not looked back since. He has been solid for Arsenal as usual and his strength is brilliant. His determination is top class and he never gives up. He has controlled his aggression and that has made him even better. He is great in the air, which can be expected with his height. Vieira’s tackling ability is quality and gets it spot on nearly every time.

STRIKERS

Ruud Van Sisterly

He has shown great determination to score since coming to the Premiership and has got a few goals for that determination. Ruud’s shooting ability is very good and shows good hold up play. He has got a good first touch and has good pace for a big player. He is very good in the air because of his height and sharpness. His fitness level seems to be very good and his work rate is excellent. He has shown great understanding wit his team mates.

Michael Owen

Owen is an excellent little player who is always in the right place at the right time. He has great pace and acceleration. He has scored a few in the league this season and will probably go on to score plenty more. He shows brilliant control on the ball and also has an excellent work rate. This season he has got sharper and he has touched up on his finishing a bit. Owen also links up well with other players on his team and can also set-up a few goals.

Well that’s the best 11 in the Premiership in my opinion, what’s yours?

I don't know if anybody has said this already but Ziege and Harte both play as left backs and Harte has played on the right before, but does not like playing there.

Thanks for all the detailed posts everyone!

It looks although the Thierry Henry and Jimmy-Floyd Haselbaink link up front is the most popular. I can see why, with Henry on the form of his life slotting in goals for fun and Jimmy a strong, stag-like striker who seems to score in every game Chelsea win.

I still think Michael Owen has to be included though, what with the form hes in at present.

Damn! Theres just so much quality in the Premiership! :-)

I would also like to talk about players who I feel would get into the best 11, based on this season’s performances.

Goalkeeper – Peter Schmeichel

Although Cudicini has only let in 1 goal in 9 games, I believe that Schmeichel has shown that he is currently the best keeper in the premiership, form wise. He has shown that he is still a great shot stopper and his reflexes are still pretty impressive, seeing as he is coming towards the end of an amazing football career. (He is in his 30’s)

Right Back – Ledley King

Ledley King has been in very impressive form this season, since the departure of Sol Campbell from Spurs to Arsenal. He is still only around 21 and so he has many years ahead of him to show the world what he is capable of.

Centre Defender – Rio Ferdinand

What can I say about him? Since moving to Leeds, he has got better and better and has probably been the best defender so far this season, in the premiership.

Centre Defender – John Terry

Probably just behind Ferdinand, form wise, this season as a defender. He is a great young player who will still get better and better.

Left Back – Ian Harte

Harte has also been in impressive form this season. He and Ferdinand have shown that they can help Leeds become one of the best defensive teams in the premiership. He can also score goals, which is of use to me as he is in my Sun Dream Team.

Right Midfielder – David Beckham

He was voted as the second best player in the world, for this year’s performances, and he deserved it. Quality player and I can see him become the best player in the world within the nest few years.

Centre Midfielder – Roy Keane

He has put so much effort into every game for Man United team this season and he always deserves to be on the winning side. He has been giving 110% every game for United, whether he is playing in midfield or defence. He is another quality player.

Centre Midfielder – Patrick Viera

He has been outstanding for Arsenal this season. I don’t think he has scored yet, but he has created many goals and his defensive responsibilities have been brilliant. He has also kept his disciplinary record low, which is not usually the case for the big Frenchman.

Left Midfielder – Steven Gerrard

I can see Gerrard becoming one of the best midfielders in the world, as long as he keeps his temper low. He can score goals, create goals, prevent goals, and even play in goal, although I doubt he is any good.

Striker – Michael Owen

Striker – Thierry Henry

So what you are saying is that Michael Owen wouldn't be in your first 11, based on this season, when facts clearly show that he is the best striker in the premiership at the moment. His goals to shots rate are the best in the premiership, although he hasn't scored as many goals as Henry and Hasselbaink. But then you would have to look at the fact that Owen has played at least 5 games less than the other 2, in the premiership this season. When fit, Owen has shown this season that he is simply unstoppable!

In my opinion, I would have Henry and Owen. Henry's goal scoring record this season says it all. He would definitely get into the team. He is a natural finisher, although his temper has blown out of proportion a few times this season. I have already talked about Owen.

You talk about Hasselbaink being in your best 11 for this season, and yes he has scored the second most goals so far this season, but the fact is that he has missed so many chances this season for Chelsea. I will admit his work rate is always good, but there is no way I would put a player in my best team that went over 600 minutes this season, without scoring a goal, even though he had so many chances, it was unbelievable.

I would have wanted to put Van Nistelrooy or Sheringham in my team, Nistelrooy because he is truly a world class player and Sheringham because he is 36 years old but he is playing some of the best football we have ever seen from him. These 2 players would definitely make the subs bench for my team.

So basically, instead of you having to laugh at anyway who disagrees, how about I laugh at you for your choice...only joking! What we have both said is simply our opinions, although I do believe more people would agree with me.

I agree. Hasselbaink is probably the best striker in the league!! But since his Leeds and Atletico Madrid days, at Chelsea he hasn't really been able to play to his full potential, for some odd reason??

If Chelsea start to pick up now, then it'll be thanks to him. And Henry's Arsenal's key striker, even if he reacted badly the other night!

Okay, this is based on THIS seasons Premiership:

Goal - Cudicini - only let in one goal in 9 games

Back Four:
Gary Neville - United's best defender this year
Rio Ferdinand - Been awesome so far with no regular partner
Sami Hyypia - OK, so Liverpool have fallen apart in the last couple of games, but look how many teams they've shut out
John Arne Riise - deserves to get in just for that goal vs. United

Midfield:
Danny Murphy - had a phenomenal start to the season
Roy Keane - only one who's looked like he cares at United
Gustavo Poyet - Really beginning to look good at Spurs
Harry Kewell - would have been Giggsy if he'd played half the season so far!

Strikers:
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Thierry Henry

Anyone try and argue with those two and I'll laugh!
