Now im not a reading kinda guy, I only read magazines, and books that are forced apon me in school. So I havent read any of the LotR books, and I didnt know anything of the plot. If you asked me I would say it was about a lord and his collection of rings.
Still after seeing the movie, im still not completly shore, what happened and what the plot was. I was just dazzled by the fantastic special effects. From what I can tell, there were some magic rings created and distributed to different species and races. Some went to Humans, others to elfs etc. Then an evil lord created his own ring, which contained everything he stood for, you know evil and stuff, the usual junk. I think this lord looks a bit like he once was on the original godzilla movies, then tried out for a role of a bad guy on power rangers but got turned down. The graphics on this guy are a big let down, he looks worse than the scorpian king in the mummy returns. But you may feel differently on the subject.
The evil ring was cut from the hand of the lord during battle, since then it had many owners, until it came into the hands of a hobit. When the hobbit left, he gave the ring and its powers to another hobit, who becomes the hero of the film. I could go on writing for 3 hours about the story of the film, but you dont want to hear it, and you probably know it already. If you do want to hear it, go buy the book or see the movie.
This movie was hyped to be big, star wars big. This is the reasen I went to see it, it was a movie epic and should not be missed. In its ways, it is like star wars.
Star wars has:
Space ships
planets
Light sabers
Jar Jar Binks
LotR has:
Horses
Forest
Swords
2 annoying small guys
Now here I am, sitting here typing after I sat and watched for 3 hours. And im not as satisfied as I should be. In my opinion, this isnt the epic which it has been hyped to be. Although it has its good points, it also has its bad.
The movie has a great feel to it, that makes you care about the characters and tense up when music plays. It is full of suspens, you keep expecting something to jump out from behind a tree, but that doesnt happen much. They let you know when something is going to happen, music starts to play, and you can hear things approaching. The acting is brilliant and brings the book to life very well.
When the film begins, you cant imagine these quiet, peacfull people, going into wars and battles. But then when the movie is near its climax, you cant remember the characters any other way, to how they are before you.
A great scene, that really entertained me. Was near the end, when theres a big battle against the orcs in a forest. When the guy is hit with three arrows, but still he keeps getting back up, using all his remaining energy to help his friends to complete their task. It really told you something about the characters and made you feel for them. In movies like the mummy and star wars, you dont care if people die, your actualy hoping to see them go. But LotR is unique in this way, you want the characters to get back up to fight another battle.
Now theres the few let downs it had. It is quite a slow moving plot, that at times isnt to intresting for the non LotR fan. Actualy thats the only bad thing I could think of, apart from the ending. You know the ending is coming, you dont want it to, but it is. Its not really an ending, it doesnt stop. The next movie will continue it right from that point, that is a great idea. It doesnt seem great when your in the cinema, the screen goes black then the credits start to roll. But in the long run, its fantastic, 6 more hours of LotR to go.
LotR is what you would get if you mixed harry potter, star wars and the mummy all together, which has to be a great thing. Even though I dont consider this an epic, its still great, and probably the best film I have seen all year. Im not a fan of the books, and I liked it, so fans must love it more than a new pack of pokemon cards. It's fun, and furious, I was going to say fast as well, but like I said it is a little slow going, atleast the start is.
Is it etter than starwars? well maybe, its better than episode one, thats for shore. It is a lot darker and more tense than star wars and not so much for the kiddies, so I would say, yeah its better. Forget star wars, the rings are in town now baby!
I dont know how this passed for a PG. I would have classed this at atleast a 12 maybe even 15. If you are taking the kids, you may want to reconsider it, if they are easily frightend.
This will be one to watch out for on DVD, im shore it will have a lot of features.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the movie

I didnt, I just showed up 15 minutes before the start and got in. The cinema was full except for three rows at the fron so I took my seat next to my mate on row number 3. Same place I sat for Jurassic park 3, im getting sick of it.
My mate kept laughing, even when it was funny. Its so anoying going with him, he has the worst sense of humour ever. He was in stiches when the wizards were fighting near the start.
The was one trailer, and that was for...Austin powers 3, yeah baby!!!
It looks so cool, theres a mini austin this time.
