Like SR said about a month ago, there is a possibility that a chip could be made ending with a never ending game. But do you think that ending the game is the whole point of buying a game, or not. If so, why?

I was also thinking, what matters most is how much you are enjoying the game at the exact moment of playing, not how long it lasts.

Like Burnout is very intense and hard but shortish, but still dreamlike to play, whereas many longer more involved games have weak points that let the whole game down.

I think it's not about the number of levels, but the quality and thought in every one.

In the 'Olden Days' you had never ending games, when hi-scores or infinitely generated levels rewarded skillz. Very rewarding they were too.

I do enjoy modern games, but I think often the middle bit is the best, when you've mastered all the skillz, got a good selection of weapons / upgrades, but still have a long way to go.

When you know you are near the end it ruins it, as you just play to complete it cos you've spent so long at it.

I also think players' guides ruin things, a great game should be finishable thru skill and patience and ability (Mario 64), things shouldn't be obscure or too exact (Eternal Darkness).

I think the idea is to ultimately kill your sims, but then get some more

You could make a never ending game now very easily - it just would be ill advised. You need structure in a game, and a purpose. That purpose has to be achievable, or what's the point in trying to accomplish it? Unless you can script a prefectly structured game that never ends, it'll be rubbish. But then, you can still creat a great game that continue's infinetly...

MMORPG - woah! Another use of that buzz phrase! "Never ending" would have to be used loosely, but they are continually existing and constantly updated. Other participants are real people, so don't require someone to write a script for them to do some repetitive act from now until eternity. New challanges are added in the regular updates, and if you get bored there is the never ending task of helping new/lower ranked players get a leg up in the game (though not everyone will enjoy the mentor role obviously). Then the game continues until the developer loses interest and stops updating/switches off the servers. Okay, that isn't strickly infinate, but you can play it 24/7 for a long, long time.

I'd like games to be longer in length, but I wouldn't want them to never end.

When Virtual Reality reappears they should make it so that when you die in-game, you die in real life too. or not.

I'd be cheesed off that I couldn't complete the damn thing.

It's a bad idea, every game will get boring.

Although I'm all for having multiple routes through a game.
