As of late, the amount of popular teenage books being turned into books is higher than ever! Over 36 have been produced this year and 18 (aprox.) are IN production! Why? Are people illeterate these days? Are they?

The only 2 books to be made into films recently are Harry Potter and LOTR. Now both appeal to people of any age.
Harry Potter is more for younger children but is popular with many ages.
LOTR is written for older people. But has become the biggest selling and most widely read book ever.
I think you need to check your sources.
