Looking at the current crop of expected GameCube titles for the next year or two, you don't just see the same old Nintendo games, that have appeared on the SNES and N64 (Mario, Zelda, Perfect Dark...). You also see that they've added several top games from the Playstation, Dreamcast and X-box.
Team-Sonic from Sega have teamed up with Nintendo to help re-create the Dreamcast success' of Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star On-line and Sonic Adventure. Aswell as the an 'all-new' Sonic Adventure 2, with GameBoy Advance link-up features. These were definitley some of the best titles on the Dreamcast (which has come to an end), and Nintendo hope they can give these games a similar effect, on the GameCube.
Sega have also worked on the highly anticipated puzzle-adventure 'Super Monkey Ball'. Which is set to be a successfull launch-title, just like it was in Japan. One mistake people make is that they say the GameCube's graphics are the same as the Dreamcast's! But by looking at the statsitics for the console, you'll see the Cube has the better of the 2. Sega haven't allowed games like 'Shenmune' or 'Jet Set Radio' to appear on the Cube, as they want to keep some games to themselves. Could this mean that the whole Sega team are secretly working on a next-generation console of their own???
Incase you didn't already know, Resident Evil is now a 'GameCube exclusive', after Nintendo brought the rights for this top gaming series, easing the competition of the PS2. Aswell as re-creating all the previous Resi games (as seen on the PS/PS2), Nintendo will have a 'brand-new' Resi Evil title, exclusive to their console!! They've decided to start from the begining with the series, to give Nintendo gamers the chance to experience Resident Evil, from the begining, just like the Playstation gamers could do.
It's no use just releasing a new game for a different console, when the useres may not have any experience of what to expect from this game, unless of course they've played it on the PS. Each Resi game in the current series will be improved slightly in more ways than one. Yes, the graphics will look almost life-like, adding to the fear and dark mood given off from this game, and Nintendo hope that maybe one or two new features in each game will also help it's improval! But they won't stray too far from the original PS versions, as they were ALL huge success'!!
So if Nintendo have the rights for the Resi Evil series, then what's the chance of a new version appearing on the GameBoy Advance??? Maybe 'Resident Evil Advance'??
What the Cube would really need from the Sony console would be the rights to produce the Grand Theft Auto series! That would really attract the gamers, and hurt Sony even more!!
So, Nintendo have already weakened the strengths of the PS2, but what about the X-box?? Microsoft's debut console, jam-packed with the latest high-tech specifications, is the other main contender against the Cube, in the console wars. Nintendo may need something special to beat this 'beast'! It's been hyped highly, all over the world, and is ONLY a 'box' by name, NOT by nature!!!
If you believe the media, then you'll believe that 'The Matrix' (one of the most spectacular films EVER created, with great special effects) won't be an X-box exclusive, after it's first 6 months!! To see all the information for this 'top-story', then you'll have to look it up in the 'news' section of this site.
But basically, 'The Matrix' is signed up as an X-box exclusive for the first 6 moths of it's release, but Nintendo developers are interested in it for their own version on the GameCube. But this wouldn't be released untill the X-box's has had it's full 6 months. Nintendo however have denied all reports that they are 'definitley' interested in this game.
All 3 of the next-generation consoles could provide their own 'stunning' version of the game, mainly because the effects and graphics in the film could be re-created on today's technology, easily!! If the Cube DOES get it's own version of 'The Matrix' then it will definitley take something away from the X-box's 'exclusiveness', of their greatest games!!
If they do weaken their 2 main rivals, Nintendo will be a great bet to win 'the console wars'. But what about creating more of their own exclusives?? Their are/have been some great films out, since 'The Matrix', but why should Nintendo stop there??? They've apparently bagged the rights for the production of the 'Lord Of The Rings' film to game transformation (according to the news section of this site), and are developing 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' (according to NGC #61), another 2 smash-hit movies!!!
I haven't seen these 2 films so I can't comment on them, but if you believe all the 'hype' about them, then hopefully there'll be a simialr effect with the games. I just think that 2002 and 2003 will be the best 2 years Nintendo have ever had!! The only problem now is....waiting!! We must be very patient, as there's no announced European launch date, and some of the Cube's greatest titles aren't even in development yet!!!
But i'm stil sure that if Nintendo keep the GameCube's hunger for great games, they'll enjoy their best ever years!! And who says Nintendo will stop here???
Sonic Team is the name of one of Sega's divisions... NOT Team-Sonic!
Next up, Sega has made no remarks about supporting the GC... after all, Sega is made of 10 division, each of which is independant of the others, and can make watever games it wants for whatever format!
I think what you mean is that Sonic Team has pledged to support the GC... very strongly in fact, with games like Monkey ball, the Sonic series, and hopefully a few others.
Oh, and Sonic Team didn't make Crazy Taxi, or have anything to do with it... that was Hitmaker methinks.
Sonic
