Activision are trying something new with the latest Call Of Duty. The Modern Warfare 3 game is fully playable offline and online, but there is also the choice of subscribing to COD: Elite for £35 a year.

Elite gives you all the map packs which will be available over the next year, plus extra perks in game, avatars and exclusive content that standard gamers won't be able to get.

Is £35 worth paying for a service? It's cheaper than buying the map packs separately and ensures Activision get some money up front before releasing a single piece of extra content.

But isn't there a danger that this move could signal less in-game content for standard users? Some people fear that the Elite package could begin to take content away from the game that would have previously been available.

On the other hand, there has been a general move by many companies, especially on Xbox Live, to defer content for a piece of DLC rather than providing it in the retail game at release, so in some ways this would be nothing new.

What are your thoughts on this? Are Activision milking the industry or is this a brave new world with exciting possibilities?

well in a way its good but it singles out people who do not have it or cant afford it because not everyone can even though its every year.
The thing is if everyone buys it then there will be nothing left to get for your game unless Activision bring out more DLC.If you get what I mean?
