What have we got to look forward to when the UK launch of the Gamecube is on top of us? Well we have the following (dates may not be 100% correct yet some are even educated guesses, but you can get a rough idea of what we have in store). Also not all games are included as there are loads unannounced, and I cant be bothered to write about them all, also no doubt you cant be bothered to read about them all.

March – At long last
Hopefully this will be the month that we actually get our hands on the purple wonder itself. Just imagine the box in your hands, as you just take a brief moment to take in the fact that you actually have one. Then the smell of a brand spanking new UK Gamecube as you open the box, to the biggest small since big small things.

Starfox Adventures is be released in America on March 25, so hopefully we will get it as a launch title if the Gamecube is released after this date. If it is released before this date (I hope so) hopefully it will be released shortly after its launch so we don’t have to wait long for our major dose of Rareware! This title has been in development by Rare for ages, as it was originally intended for release on the N64. It takes a Zelda 64 style, combining Lylat Wars style flying parts in mid-game. There are many things to be done in this game such as puzzles, racing, shooting, flying etc, there is something for everyone in this title. It looks mind blowing, just imagine if this is what Rare can do in the early days of the Gamecube what will they be capable of later on in its life?

Super Smash Bro. Melee. Now this would make a good launch title. The queues to play this game at Ninty’s Spaceworld exhibition showed that this is a game that many people are waiting for. The animation of all the characters is just stunning, and flow so smoothly. There are many characters to choose from, they are even rumoured to include Pichu, Mewtwo, Dr Mario, Falco and Young Link. This is one beat-em-up that is a sure fire hit.

Another title that would make a good launch title is Tony Hawk’s 3. This is the follow up to THPS2 on the PS and N64. The idea is the same as the previous games; the graphic and controls have just been tweaked.

One title that is an almost definite to appear at launch is Luigi’s Mansion, but with Nintendo always expect the unexpected, nothing is for sure! Instead of the normal of Mario taking the launch of the Nintendo console on his shoulders, Luigi is doing it for the Gamecube. This is the perfect game to get used to using the new controller. It teaches you how to use both of the analogue stick simultaneously. As well as that, as you would expect there are many puzzles to be solved, tasks to be solved and coins to be found. If you don’t know about this title, then you really cant want a Gamecube as everyone knows about this title in varying amounts!

Another title that should be there at launch is Waverace: Bluestorm. This is an updated version of the N64’s great Waverace. Nearly everything has been improved, even the water effects. This time around each lap you do is different, because the weather conditions change. This is one of the great multi-players that is worth getting ASAP. As well as a multi-player mode there is a stunt mode, a practice mode, time trial and a grand prix mode (maybe more).

Pikmin is a game that should be ready by the time the launch reaches us. But weather it will be released in the first month of the Gamecube’s time in the UK is still unclear, but we can hope so! This is a strange looking title from the master of games, Shigsy! This is another original title from Nintendo that works like a dream.

A game that is on everyone’s wants lists for this console is Star Wars: Rogue Leader. Not a lot needs to be said about this title, as everyone knows about it, so I will just say a few quick things. Words can’t describe how good the graphics look, the sound is perfection itself, and there are so many things to keep you occupied. This game also used the Gamecube’s built in clock, for those of you who don’t know.

This title isn’t likely to be there at launch, but hopefully soon after as it is scheduled for a spring release, but there is still a chance that it will be released at launch. This futuristic racer gives the speed of F-zero X for its money, and the graphics of many games don’t get much better than this. The game I am talking about is ‘Extreme G3’.

April
With the launch out of the way, we now need to have a steady supply of games, to prevent the disaster that happened on the N64. With already almost 100 games in development (that we know of) things look promising. Although many games have not been given a release date, and there are proberly loads of secret games in development. So this may mean that at the moment the release list seems a bit thin, do not threat as this is not the real deal.

Sonic Adventure 2 apparently this game uses the Gamecube  GBA link, allowing you to switch data between the games. Fans of the sonic games, can now play it on there Gamecube, and it is looking better than any others before it.

Galleon, this is a promising looking title; it is about pirates and the high seas. It takes a third person perspective, and plays a bit like a RPG/Platformer as well as many other genres rolled into one.

May
FIFA 2002, what can I say about this game. It is like most other football games before it, where the idea is to score goals. The graphics have been improved, and the controls are made easy by the Gamecube controller.

June
Dave Mirra BMX 2 takes the idea of Tony Hawk’s and puts it on a BMX. The graphics on this aren’t the best we have seen but they are still good quality. Now you can pull off all them impossible stunts that you could never do without even getting hurt (besides sore thumbs).

Lets hit them snow-covered slopes and get some air to pull off some wild stunts with this next great title ‘SSX Tricky’. The courses are like rollercoaster rides, that even make F-zero X’s tracks look tame. It is also rumoured to have a star-studded cast, including Lucy Liu and Macy Gray providing voices. This is a good game to fill that gap of snowboarding, at least until (or even if) 1080 2 is released.

July
Spiderman has to be better than Superman on the N64, well it couldn’t get any worse. This time around this is a superhero game that might be worth having a look at, as the gameplay and graphics look great.

August
This seems to be all quiet on the gaming front for Nintendo, but as the release of the machine itself is officially announced, there should be loads more titles flooding into the release list filling these blank spaces. But About this time in Japan Mario Sunshine will be being released, so it will be about another 6 months until we get our hands on it, but at least we will have info about it then!

September
Another month that seems quiet on the UK shores, but in USA we will hopefully be seeing Metroid Prime being released. This is a title that is being eagerly awaited by many gamers that are fans of the old titles of this game. There have been many rumours about this game, such as the multi-player will be online-enabled, and that the lead programmer has left to join Acclaim.

October
Turok Evolution should be released around this time. Apparently the game is returning to its roots as a fast-paced blaster set in the middle of sweltering jungles. The screen shot that have so far been seen of this look incredible. There is also a rumour that at least one level is set in mid-air on a pterodactyl.

Cel Damage is a sort of follow up to the 70’s cartoon Wacky Races, it even has cel-shaded looking graphic. There are many weapons that should add up to hours of multi-player fun. This title has received good reviews on the X-Box (bound to be better on Gamecube).

November
All seems still and quiet the month before Christmas, is this the still before the storm? You bet it is!!!

December, this is the month you have all been waiting for! Not just because of the reason of its nearly Christmas, but also the amazing line up that is about.

Perfect Dark, there are many doubts that this title will reach its proposed december launch, but we can hope that it does. But we don’t want to hurry Rare, as they always deliver the goods. It is also rumoured that this title is likely to have online multi-player elements, if anyone can pull this off with suucccess Rare can. Will we be seeing the launch of the Nintendo online network with this title?

Donkey Kong Racing, also from rare this Christmas. As with all of their games Rare are keeping very tight lipped about this game. But the introduction movie (advaliable from their site) makes this game look promising, with its humour, graphics and gameplay. There are vague rumblings (rumours) that train your animal steed over a period of time before entering it in the championships.

Third time very lucky, yet another title from Rare. Kameo: Elements of Power looks like a very intriguing game. You control a heroine who can morph into many different animals, which you train up like Pokémon. The visuals as you would expect from Rare on this title are gob smacking.

Dimension Games have just announced Road Rash Jailbreak. This is the latest instalment of the motor-biking series, but don’t expect much more than the N64’s version. May just better graphics but you never know!

So that is just a sample of what we have in store, with a whole lot more. So it looks like the Gamecube is going to be a huge hit, especially Christmas 2002 with the release of three amazing Rareware games.

Good, good. Gamecube is indeed a 'purple wonder'. But why are all of you people moaning?... If you want a Gamecube soo badly then go and order one off the net. If if they are more expensive, isn't it better to be one of the first people to own a Gamecube then get one at the same time as everyone else?

Good post. I think i'll buy THPS3 when the 'purple wonder' comes out. It's more like a 'cubed wonder' though, cause it's orange and black aswell.

Tony Hawks 3 is looking really great on the PS2. But even better on the GC! It looks great and will be one of the top sellers over here at the British laaunch of the Gmaecube.

Gamespot gave the PS2 version of Tony Hawks 3 a perfect 10 while the GC only managed a 9. They said it wasnt a graphical stable as the PS2 version and had slow down or something like that.
