Nah, my mum wanted to get a cam because it has a microphone, but I want an eyetoy cos I thought the laptop already had a microphone :P

It depends entirely on the laptop model.
Easiest way to check is to use something like the audio/video set up on MSN Messenger (or your favoured messaging client) as it'll list all the microphone inputs and let you test them to set volume etc..
