Which RPG games are generally considered to be best. He's looking for something in the style of Final Fantasy, or Chrono Trigger, typical console RPG's, rather than the typical PC type.
If you havent got a PS1 then you can always pick up Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 and grab yourself a PS1 memory card and use it on the PS2.
The Summoner is graphically questionable though by no means appauling, it is huge and deep if you want a big ol' challenge. However, it goes with the "Vagrant Story" battle system which falls somewhere in between turn based and "hack 'em up", I'm not to keen, but I know people who prefer it.
Final Fantasy 10 is clearly the best bet, but that involves being patient........ darn.
Graphically its got the usual Square brilliance. It looks perfect. The gameplay has been turned up several notches, the length is as satisfying as ever, and the sound is its usual atmospheric self. If you can wait, buy FFX.
From the back of the box:
"Just when you thought another dull-as-****-RPG couldn't come along, you were wrong!
Guide Smeashbwip The Tree Pixie through many levels of woods and taverns in his quest for the Beard of Beardy.
Build your stat points!
Engage in cumbersome turn-based combat with massive spiders!
Exchange the biscuits of Wingwang for the special spell of tedium from some rubbish wizard in a ditch!
Play online and meet other weird D&D players!
Wander about the virtual wood and tavern and repeatedly say "I'll be your slave for some gear" to every character you meet."
Excellent.
