I noticed that IGN had been posting a lot of GameCube material lately, or more like little tidbits of information, so here it is in it's entirety. It makes for some interesting reading - I must say!

Getting Sporty

IGNcube has learned that an original GameCube sports title is in development by studio Visual Concepts. The game is scheduled to release for Nintendo's next-generation system during the first quarter of 2002.

No details have been made available regarding the project, but sources have confirmed that it is being designed from the ground up to run exclusively on the GameCube platform. It is, for once, not a port.

Pac-Man Gobbles up Cube

Publisher Namco Entertainment announced today that it is underway with a version of Pac-Man World 2 for the GameCube console. The title will debut for Nintendo's next-generation console sometime in early 2002. It marks the second GCN release by Namco, the first being Smashing Drive.

Pac-Man World 2 takes players to Pac-Village, the home of the Pac-People. A gang of pesky ghosts has stolen the village's lifeblood -- five golden fruit, and it's up to Pac-Man to retrieve them and restore order. While some maze-like areas are featured, the game breaks from its historical mold and delivers a fully polygonal 3D platformer experience complete with six different worlds, 15 mazes and 20 giant levels. Pac-Man can run, jump and perform a variety of moves in addition to using roller blades, ice skates and even riding in a Pac-submarine.

Both the GameCube and PlayStation 2 titles are identical and will arrive side-by-side early next year.

Nintendo Sells 800,000

Nintendo issued a release today that indicated it has sold through more than 800,000 pieces of GameCube hardware in North America since the console's November 18 launch. It has shipped 1.1 million units currently to the region. The subsidiary said that the debut of GameCube in the US comes as the best launch ever in its 17-year history.
Nintendo further stated that Super Smash Bros. Melee, which launched December 4 in the US, sold through more than 250,000 units in nine days.

The firm reiterated its intentions to deliver an additional 100,000 units of GameCube to retailers on a weekly basis. It also restated that 21 GCN titles would be available for the holiday and 37 by March 2002.

The release did not compare the sales figures of GameCube to Microsoft's Xbox, which recent NPD data shows has outsold Nintendo's next-generation system during the last two weeks.

Units Slim for European Launch?

Nintendo reiterated today that its GameCube console would go on sale in Europe in spring 2002, most probably in April or May. However, initial shipments of the console will fall well short of the presumed 500,000 number.

According to Japan's Asahi Shimbun's website, Nintendo is planning to ship only 300,000 pieces of GameCube hardware to Europe at launch.

"We will be able to provide details of our Europe launch next month," a Nintendo spokesman said. No further details were offered.
