If you watched a film today where was it made?
If you listened to music today, what nationality were the bands?
The operating system you run your PC on now, where’s the company from?
Everything these days are made by a country we founded – America. No, I don’t think they are going to take over the world as such (yet) but there’s always been a question on my mind that makes me wonder – Are we American Soda-Sipping Wannabes? Is our nation driven by American culture?
I could think of many examples but I will use two, music and……….. my little sister. Ok, she may not be an important figure in Britain but she is part of the youth of our nation.
Sometimes when I’m at home and my little sister has friends round, she calls me downstairs after handing me a ticket to watch some show. So, after being bribed as such to watch the show, I sit down next to my dad in the two-man audience. She then acts out the show in an American voice. Why? I have asked her this many times but she just kept doing it, even making her friends do it. Do your little sisters do this too?
You know the type of acting I mean, it’s like: “Ohhhh Shelly stop pulling on my hair, talk-to-the-hand” style, or “Hey, wanna go grab a Pizza down at the Mall?”
Why can’t she say – “ Hey Sarah, want to go to town and have a Fish & Chips?” sounds more reasonable to me……
Ever noticed much American slang around? Such as – Dude or talk-to-the-hand etc?
I was actually listening to the Lost Prophets when I decided to write this. For a long time I had been listening to them, I must say about a few months. But why has it only just occurred to me that these guys are English?
Yes, if you didn’t know……..they are.
I swear I was listening to these guys for months and even commented on how ‘Californian’ this guys voice sounds. You know the type, like a Blink 182 clone or Sum 41, all that punky stuff.
If you have the Lost Prophets take a listen now………..you back? Doesn’t his voice sound American? Is he putting that on or doe’s he actually talk American or something? Because his singing has a stronger accent then most other Americans I have heard!
So I’ll leave you to think about it –
Why do we put on these dumb American accents?

1. No. But 'Fight Club's on later.
2. Ill Nino - 'God Save Us' (and loads of other stuff, mainly American)
3. American
Yes I do live in England, and I do wonder if the Americans are trying to take control of us, with EVERYTHING being American!!
Simple fact... I hate being Britsih and Scottish, however what annoys me is people classing Britain as England :P
Patrismom sucks anyway...
1)Not watched a film
2)Radiohead and Manics... English and Welsh
3)Don't know what operating system is... guessing Microsodt/American.
A few years back everything was Brit... All Brit music/Movies/etc were all you could find...
Marketing people saturated the market, people got sick of it all, so they had to come up with some other novelty to sell to us... as such (cashing in on the sympathy from the Sept11. events) they started off with yank stuff again...
(although, methinks what they are forcing on us this time is a little uninspired and washed out?)
I wouldnt worry... hang around a few years (you may have to wait for Australia to be popular for a couple of months again?) and everything Brit will be popular again...
Its closer to america than england...
We also have a complete monopoly on Hollywood bad guys.
