Football has been the best sport for many years. The passion of the game, the skill, flair, technique and touch by so many famous faces. Players such as Pele who brought so much to the game. But now there has been much debate to whether the game has been put into turmoil with the amount of money that has been involved. Players such as Ronaldo who is a well-established international player, receives about £100,000 a week. He has been out for two years but has been collecting all this money. There is so much debate to whether they should be paid so much. Ronaldo gets more money a week then some people get in a decade. It seems bizarre but it’s a fact.

Recently Doug Ellis (Aston villa chairman) has just said he wants to make sure the club stay well financially and therefore making John Gregory wonder if he has to sell Juan Pablo Angel in order to bring in 3 new faces. But by selling top players you are stopping the club from competing at the very highest level. Has Football become about survival rather then ambition? Are players under-performing and just sitting pretty on the huge amounts of money they get. Although you could argue that this premiership has been very exciting with a number of clubs competing for the premiership after Manchester United have had their worst start to the premiership.

The bottom clubs have to sell their promising youngsters to get out of debt. But if this keeps happening then bottom clubs will struggle to get any higher in the league. The PFA got enough money from the televised games to protect the players at a lesser club if they are forced to retire through injury. This was good thing for the players as they could get re-educated. But what about the smaller clubs themselves? The new transfer system may be ideal for them as they receive compensation of the transfer of the player. But is that enough for the smaller clubs to survive? Some of the lesser clubs depend on the FA Cup and the League Cup to receive money. So are there any things new that could be brought to the game where the smaller clubs can compete instead of survive?

But the real question is, football being ruined by money?

Personally, and speaking as someone not remotely interested in the game, I'd say that football is being ruined by a small, overpaid minority of players. The very idea that Jonathan Woodgate should be allowed to play for any team again is outrageous - in any other employment a conviction means you are finished, but he's being treated like he was the one wronged ! 100 hours community service is a joke, to put it mildly. But he'll be back at Leeds ASAP, and they will pay him for it. No one is forcing these players to have high wages, nobody forces fans to pay £50 + for a shirt that costs about £5 to make, and SKY/other broadcasters don't put guns to the heads of club managers to get TV rights. Football, it seems, is about making money off everyone, and its not about the fans - which is why I don't care about it !

I think that football is getting ruined by money and I fear it could eventually be ruined by it, all together!! Look at Sol Campbell's free transfer from Spurs to Arsenal. Why would a 'die hard Spurs fan' go and join their biggest rivals for free??? The only answer would be because of money!! We all read the stories of how he wanted £100k, but none of the bigger clubs would offer it. He was set to join Man United but that fell thorugh. Was it because of 'wage demands'??

It would make sense, Campbell wanting more than United could offer, especially if they wanted to buy both van Nistelrooy and Veron, for almost £50m! Arsenal didn't spend quite as much and are desperate to remove Man United from the top of the league, doing whatever it may take!! So they offered Sol what he wanted, even if it will 'break their bank'!!

The alternative reason for his 'shock switch' is that he wanted to prove himself as a bigger man. And show he can handle pressure, putting himself in 'the good books' for England captain. Trying to show he can handle the pressure between fierce rivalries, meaning he can captain his country in a World Cup Final!!

Or his move to Highbury is because he's unhappy with the rivalry between the 2 clubs, and feels he cannot sleep at night. And therefore he wants to stand between the 2 and bring them closer together.

Whatever reason he joined Arsenal for, I think he should have gone elsewhere. He'd have a regular place at United, and be supported by the mass-majority of the world's population of football fans.

I also don't think David Beckham's greedy for money, and he will sign a new contract. The contract will also give him no higher than Veron and van Nistelrooy, also nowhere near to £100k a week! He's a loyal United fan, un-like Campbell is with Spurs.
