There are a few things that set Armageddon apart from it's predecessor, the first being the aforementioned fact that you are underground, because of the significantly tighter surroundings you'll need to apply some strategy and tactical thought to the carnage you cause as you'll often find yourself relying on narrow, flimsy walkways to continue forward and one wrong move could send you plummeting down the very chasm the walkway once bridged, but this also applies for your enemies (human ones at least), if you're being followed across that walkway you can get across then blow it from under them using the vast and clever arsenal of weapons the game has to offer which brings us to the next new interesting feature.
Another key difference is the ability to repair the world, as you complete your objectives and fight enemies you might end up destroying your only way forward or it could be blocked by debris, with a quick press of the appropriate button you can rebuild your way forward, or like destruction to hinder your foes by repairing barricades, introducing a puzzle element to the action.
Nearly all the weapons you get to play around with make the most of the game's physics engine and build upon the gear available in Guerrilla, as well as some entirely new ones, a particularly fun little toy to use is the singularity cannon which rips structures apart by pulling them towards the tiny void that you fire, this also applies to any enemies in it's vicinity, another clever weapon is the magnet gun with which you tag the target with a beacon and fire a second tag which sends whatever it hits smashing into the first one, there are also standard weapons such as pistols and assault rifles but because the other more inventive weapons are so fun to use you'll seldom end up using them.
Multiplayer has also been revamped, traditional game modes like deathmatch have been replaced by interesting new ones, my personal favorite is infestation mode where you fend off increasingly difficult waves of alien attackers forcing you to work together with whoever you're playing with, think black ops zombies except aliens replace zombies and mars replaces the pentagon and you have this, when you do work together it's one of the most satisfying and fun parts of the game but unfortunately the majority of games i've been in has had everyone shouting at each other down their mics and headsets but you can't really blame the game for that.
Red Faction Armageddon while not perfect is certainly a worthy addition to anyone's collection, best 40 notes i've spent in a while that's for sure.
