Whats the deal with the Final Fantasy game, which is coming to the GameCube? They say that there wont be turn based battles, like practically every other ff game, but rather the game will feature real time battles, ala zelda, to make it more action-y. I mean i love zelda to bits but do Square think we cant handle turn based battles or something?!?!?
come on Square, just cause our consoles are purple (and some are black, i know) doesnt mean that we dont have a brain to think with!!!

Opinions?

i don't care whether it's real or turn based cos i just like Square RPGS in general...
if they had the chrono cross system or chrono trigger system then that would be REALLY good

To be honest, I just hope they can make a decient game. Last "great" release from them was Final Fantasy 7; Vagrant Story was interesting, could take or leave anything else.

Considering the action combat system from Zelda, might be interesting to have a turn based system from FF for a bit of variation.

Download Secret of Mana for the Snes.

Takes the best of Final Fantasy and makes the combat fun and allows multiple players. Adventuring how it SHOULD be.

And that's what the new Final Fantasy for the Gamecube will be like.

I'm hoping for a Chrono Trigger style combat system.

Anyway, being a 4 player game it's unlikely it will be just plain turn based.

Actually I prefer real time fighting over turn based. With turn based, you have to take a beating, whereas with real time, it comes down to your skill and even if you're a lower level, you can still put up a fight without getting totally destroyed.
Turn based ends up being a time consuming (and often boring) path of having to level up to the point where your stronger than the current opponents your facing.

Final Fantasy 7 is a prime example of this. I got right to the end, then I had to spend ages and ages building up my levels to stand a chance against the end boss. Plus with real time battles - you can see where enemies are and can choose to try and avoid them rather than get sucked into random battles which you really don't want to be in.

Square games like Secret Of Mana used real time fighting and I think they're a lot better for it.
