My lappys got XP on it and I'm still getting used to it, recently though its started putting NumLock on when it starts up. This can be pretty annoying on a lappy keyboard obviously as the num pad is shared with other keys.

I of course went straight to the BIOS and had a poke round and couldnt find any option (probably coz dell thought "who the hell would want num lock to come on automatically?"), and I noticed it only comes on when XP starts.

Is there an option in XP to change the Num Lock status as its bloody annoying..

Robin, you are now officially what's known as a "Linux Zealot", and as such, I shall be forced to destroy you.

I know the kernel handles it in Linux, and seeing as it has only started happening in XP I'd guess you'd have to config it in that. However, the disadvantage of having XP (and windows in general) is that it's quite averse to configuration and I doubt you'll ever get it fixed. Try a google search.

No idea whether there's an option in XP.. it probably isn't the responsibility of the operating system to deal with this.. the BIOS really should. On the other hand if you can find a commandline tool to set the key status you could throw it in autoexec.bat or similar..

Why are you rebooting the laptop enough for this to be annoying? XP is perfectly stable for me and I thought laptops were meant to go into standby mode or something..
