Now I'm not moaning about Argos as a singular, more about catalogue shops as a whole the kind that stock clothes as a main product and have ventured into the world of gaming. Things may have changed, but all through my life I've noticed various facts concerning these shops. I quick flick to the game section will present us with various console wonders from gaming days once lived, but alas they are still selling for stupid prices. I remember at one point Argos was trying to flog their last stock of Megadrives and wanted around fifty pounds for a console and a few games!!!! Although this is cheap (Compared to the PS2 anyway, this is by no means a cheap Megadrive!!!), the pre mentioned folk who wouldn't know better, bless em, really 'wouldn't know better'. A purchase of this console would have been a waste of money and as soon as they had tried to find new games for the bleeding thing they will realise that fact. What a waste of money! Retro gaming is best kept for adults who know what the situation is with each console and know if they are paying good prices for what they are receiving.
In my mind, I expect to see some sort of notice next to the console picture, 'older model console games no longer made'. This does seem a bit of a weird idea for a company who are trying their hardest to sell a product but come on, your ripping people off! And on purpose as well! They don't know what they are doing and are probably buying the console as a gift for a child who will sadly not find an ongoing interest for the thing. Without checking ill take a bet that at the moment the same situation may be occurring but with N64's, the next in line for the console graveyard. I can picture it rising up to its place in heaven while the said shops are trying their best to anchor it down and then flog it to some pore sole waiting below.
Now we come to great shops like SR, they have the decency to get rid of the consoles when they become obsolete and actually offer great prices on the new ones. This way parents know that what they are getting their child is up to date and has an expanding library of software. My personal opinion is that SR should contact the mentioned shop and politely say "Stop ripping parents off!!!!" if its possible to say that politely of course, if not I shall do it myself! (Well I wont, I'm, not brave enough to go head to head with a big catalogue shop!!)
Anyway, my point is the fact that these shops have and will get away with selling consoles at whatever price they want due to the fact that they are a popular mainstream supplier. I personaly have always noticed this and have stuck with specialist game suppliers, how I found special reserve in fact.

these mainstream retailers ARE charging ridiculous prices, and because of that people are not buying from them. Companies like Special Reserve and G*meplay offer much better prices for all products. If people don't buy from shops like Argos, Argos will either stop selling them altogether or lower their prices.
If it's the only way they can get money, they'll have to charge less. The future is bright, my friends!
And, oh yeah....well done on winning GAD!
