Mario 64 sees Nintendo's fat plumber hero in his usual situation. Thinking about it the story writers must have a very easy job at Nintendo. Mario's designer probably walks into their office, says something like "I am making a new Mario Game and I need you to come up with a story behind it" At this point the writers look atand say "Erh, how about we use the tried and test formula where the beloved Princess gets captuered by Bowser" Miyamoto then say "Great, great, like it,like it" and then walks out of the room feeling very pleased. COME ON NINTENDO WE WANTED A NEW STORY LINE!

Having said this however Mario 64 is a very good game with the kind of graphics, sound and playability that we have come to expect from Nintendo's Dream Team. When Mario 64 was first reveiled I remember that everyone was stunned by the mouth watering 3D graphics without any hint of slowdown, and soon magazines said that the N64 will be the machine of the future. When the game was first released it also pickedup many awards and praise for its lush graphics and for entering a new levelof next generation games. That was the publics and game critics opinions when the game first came out, but is our opinion the same now that it has been out for more than a year on these shores?

Well, when you first play Mario 64 you will be suprised by the amountof detail in the game and the gorgeous tunes, that is if you have not alreadyplayed Goldeneye. During the game you will also receive flashbacks of whenyou were young playing on Mario World, this maked the game very pleasing tome as it was nice to see the well remembered characters from the past gamesbe turned into 3D characters. The Goobahs (who were always my favourite badguys) especially made be laugh, as they sometimes go to attck you or relise that Mario is nearly twice the size ofthem and start to run of in the opposite direction.

The levels in Mario 64 are well designed, but sometimes you can justget so annoyed with them, when you do not know what to do. You see, Mario 64is different to all of the past Mario games. In the past all the level involved you doing was reaching the end, however in Mario 64 each level has seven tasks which you have to do to obtain stars (you have to collect the starsto be able to enter some levels). For example in one level, the star is calledbreak the wall (the stars names tell you what you have to do to get them)or something similar, now I stumbled across this purely by accident but I knowa few people who spent hours trying to find out what to do as there are a lot of walls, and in the end they had to cheat and ask me (incidently if you are stuck check out the solutions page). Appart from a few annoying stars howeverthe levels are quite easy and the game can be finished in about ten hours. This is the main problem with the game once it is finished, there is nothingelse to do and you might aswell sell the blasted thing. It seems to me that all of the Nintendo made games are a little too easy, which is something of alet down. But is still has been called, the best game made ever. We can see why.

Thanks 4 reading, Afro.

I think I found that one before I got my 120th star. But I read about

I had that star about 20th because the first race I did, I got under 21 seconds (Not bad eh? :D) so I got 2 stars.

Mario 64 was a great game!! It was the first game I got with my N64, just after the launch date. And it only took me just under a month to complete it, with a little help from some friends of course. But still, it's a Nintendo classic! And deserved a sequel on the N64!! Paper Mario just isn't quite a sequel though is it. Oh well, maybe there'll be one on the GameCube.
