We've played in London endless times, and we've had a couple of "celebrities" come to the gigs.
They've either been there before or hung around afterwards and we've been to the pub for a drink.
When we played Dublin Castle in Camden, Graham Coxon (Blur) was there and came over for a chat after the gig.
He came again the next time during soundcheck and we chatted for the best part of an hour.
Last night when we played The Barfly, the singer from Starsailor came and we piled down the pub for an hour before we went on.
Now I cannot stand Starsailor, but they're well known.
I do like Blur and Coxon was cool.
But in both cases, it just didn't feel like "Jesus, we're talking to so-and-so! This is cool!".
Maybe it was because we were on equal footing, both in bands, we talked about songs and instruments and how hard it is to get noticed.
I expected to be star-struck and fanboy around these people, but I wasn't.
Loads of people walked past and pointed at Starsailor bloke and Coxon, a few came over for autographs but when they left we just carried on talking about music.
I can't describe the utter normality of sitting there with some bloke that plays guitar and just happens to be in band that loads of people like.
It was just musicians chatting in the pub.
We're not even partway to getting big yet, we have a pretty large following that show and we've had radio play etc, people we don't know come to see us each time and you could call them "fans", and that's cool.
But it amazes me that I can sit there with someone in a massive band and not feel awestruck, just guys in a band chatting about band stuff.
Odd.
He does sound retarded when he talks at first until you tune into his..special voice.
Hell, just go to The Dublin Castle, you'll see him eventually.
It's also Buster Bloodvessel's local, and we've met him a couple of times but he's MASSIVE and looks very, very scary.
I think, with Coxon, I was gobsmacked for about 10mins until we started talking about how crap soundchecks are.
Then we just chatted for a while and he took our mobile number and phoned a few days later to see when we were playing again.
Just odd when I see Blur videos on the tv and I think "I've met you a couple of times and you phoned us"
But it's not a "star-struck" thing at all, just a weird feeling.
cool,cool like fonzie
You should have punched him from Starsailor... add two "celebrites" to your list...
Stuff 'is head and hang him on wall with Jamie Oliver
I like Graham Coxon and Blur, lucky you...
Hate Starsailor and that bloke when he sings, sure hes an alright bloke when you talk to him as you have done...
When the hell are you lot going to get signed up anyway? :)
