So what do you expect from these games? Will they work together, taking advantage of the GBA - Gamecube connectivity? If so, to what extent?
It could just be that it is a Gamecube adventure that involves capturing Pokemon, but you can download them to your GBA in order to train them, fight them, and trade them with others.
If the Gamecube game is an adventure much like those we have previously seen on the Gameboy it will have to be fairly advanced in order to please owners of the Gamecube, that would have become used to games like Luigi's Mansion and the like.
Could we finally see the first Pokemon 3D adventure? Surely the game would have to evolve considerably, but I can forsee it happening. I imagine that it would be much tougher to capture Pokemon. No more could you walk up to them, weaken them and throw a ball at them, no that's too simple. How about trying to trick them, and trap them. Use other Pokemon, and their skills to set traps, and eventually capture a new Pokémon. Also I would like to see you be able to use your Pokémon's abilities more in the game to assist you, rather than just during battle.
If the next Pokemon game is a GBA game then I can see it being much like the previous versions of Pokemon on the Gameboy, only much better looking. The GBA is certainly capable of improving the gameplay a great deal, but would Nintendo be ready to move the title on just yet?
There have been rumours that a Pokemon game will be used to promote Nintendo's online games, with Pokémon being the first. If this was true it could certainly make trading a more essentail part of the game. Would it be like a huge online game, with a massive world to explore, full of other Pokémon trainers? Would you be able to challenge any of them to a battle? Would there be limited numbers of the rare Pokémon, meaning that you'd have to trade for it, or fight someone for it?
Considering the popularity of the franchise on the Gameboy so far, what it could achieve on Nintendo's superior platforms is quite incredible. Unfortunately we've got a while to wait yet before we see Pokémon on the GBA or the Gamecube though. But surely it will be worth the wait!
