In yesterday's GLASGOW HERALD newspaper they ran a feature regarding the Jap launch of the Gamecube and about the history and state of the console business.

It was a well informed piece of journalism, as is expected of a newspaper of this calibre. Granted they had some mistakes, but musn't grumble as the article was aimed at people who wouldnt normally play games.

Anyway, at the bottom of this broadsheet sized article was a panel entitled "The consoles that have set the pace". In this box, they listed the majority of games consoles that have shaped our lives. Giving a brief history of said machine and its killer apps. The best bit was the section under each entitled "Looks Like : "

ATARI 2600 : Looks like Darth Vaders letter box

NES : Looks like a black and white toasted sandwich maker

GAMEBOY : Looks like The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

MEGADRIVE : Looks like a flattened black motorcycle helmet

PLAYSTATION : Looks like a paving slab with a pop-up CD tray. Has recently evolved, and now looks like a small paving slab with a pop-up CD tray

DREAMCAST : Looks like a heart monitor designed by IKEA

PLAYSTATION 2 : Looks like a scale model of the headquarters of a sinister Bond villain

GAMECUBE : Looks like a cube, funnily enough. Apparently it plays games as well.

XBOX : Looks like a box. With an X on top.

Looks like the Journo wrote the article, went out for a little toke and then set about the last section, obviously the stone kicked in when he got to the last two consoles and he just couldnt be bothered thinking about them.

Brilliant.

Very good, I think the only papers where you can get proper, correct video-game journalism are in specialist bits, like the video-games page in the guide which comes with the guardian. Well spotted, otherwise.
