Hi,

My install of Firefox 4.0 (and indeed 3.6.x) regularly lags and ultimately crashes.

I can only think of three things likely to be causing trouble; Java, JavaScript and Flash.

I have the latest versions installed.

I have created a new Firefox profile from the ground up and it still happens.

Does anyone else have similar issues? If so, any workarounds would be good.

I recommend following my earlier 'Firefox safe mode' tip!

NB. v8.0 is the latest version (released 8 Nov 2011)

Caught it.

Ran in safe mode - all ok.

Ran normally - extensions enabled/plugins disabled - no difference.

Ran normally - extensions disabled/plugins enabled. Enabled each extension individually and tested.

Then I hit the Skype extension and bang - CPU maxed out. Disabled that and enabled everything else and all is ok.

Mozilla did have the Skype extension on the blocklist for previous versions, but it still looks iffy.

Nope - still crashing on Ajax intensive pages.

I reinstalled a clean copy of FF4 and left one or two extensions off that I thought could have been the cause (which I had only recently started to use).

So far, so good. My CPUs have stayed away from 100% when streaming video and using Ajax intense pages; and no crashes.

I would have thought add-ons could be a cause for issues.

Try running Firefox in Safe Mode
