Hello, i've come to a problem, I'm starting up a new website, everything looks ok, except for the links, eeek.
I have a problem, I didn't bother buying a domain instead I think using f2s.nets and .8k.com is a good idea, although i'm using both for this one website, so the links can get messy, some are huge, so, my question to you is:
How can I make http://www.mysitename.8k.com/weirdandwonderfulstuffhere.htm ok, this would have been longer but SR don't allow it.

look like: http://www.mysitename.8k.com/news.htm

ok, i'll explain a little more, the first long link is what the website gives me, because it's free I don't get a choice of what I want up, I want it to look shorter, because that's one heck of a long url to remeber.
if all this is possible, please help me out.

thanks in advance :D

Ok, what happens is, with freeservers, you get a certain set of pages which you can use, anyway you want, thing is some of them are really long, I can't name them myself,. I upload my pages unto their server and the server puts them on a page e.g. www.mysite.8k.com/photo1.htm but infact I named it Downloads.htm so I was wondering if there was something I could do to change the appearance of the url.
obviously I can't but thankyou for you help all the same :)

... or, having thought about it a bit more, you could set up a page with the nice short name you're talking about, which is has a Javascript (or php?) script that immediately redirects to the hugelongname.htm you referred to.

That way your users don't need to know about the hugelongname address.

Mind you, I'm still not sure I know what's giving you the problem!

I don't understand either. If you're trying to set up your home page, then its very unusual for it not to be called "index.htm" or "default.htm" or similar (eg .php).

But if you're talking about links from and to your own pages, then you're totally in control of what you call them within your own web space.

So what's the problem? A bit more detail and we might be able to help.

Ehm, not really sure what you want. Basically you want a short address to redirect to a hugely large address? Well, you'd need to have access to (or own) the shorter address so you can pput the necessary files on it. In that case you could just put your website's files on there and don't even bother with the long address. Otherwise you'd have to modify the DNS records of the short address. However, if you can do that you are a genius and really shouldn't be asking this question!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Impressive control panel
I have to say that I'm impressed with the features available having logged on... Loads of info - excellent.
