Quite possibly one of the most never-heard-of-but-excellent albums of 2001.
I've got two other Cake tracks, "I will Survive" (a cover of that song) and "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" so I went out and bought Comfort Eagle.
Well, ok I downloaded it, but I am buying it tomorrow so I can have the artwork and lyrics etc.
Stupidly funky rock'n'roll with trumpets, organs and a dude with the most laconic drawl ever.
Imagine The Eels crossed with Led Zeppelin and that's the rough area we're in.
Not shouty-angry-man music, but bluesy rock with an ear for a fat bassline and some sweet horn blowing.
Fav tracks?
Italian Leather Sofa:
"She's got a silk-dress and perfect breasts that bounce on his Italian lea-ther sofaaaa..she doesn't care whether or not he's a good man..she doesn't care just as long as she still has her friends...."
Race Car Ya-Yas
"Land of race car ya yas, a land where you can't change lanes...where large fuzzy dice still hang proudly like testicles from rear-view mirrors..."

They come up with some of the most catchy riffs I've heard since Clutch rocked it and add that trumpet and you've got something very, very good and unique.
If you like The Eels or Clutch or Led Zeppelin or other scuzzy blyes-based bands, then you'll love Cake.
If you play any instrument, you'll love Cake because they come up with some of the best musical ideas of this year. The songs shouldn't work, but they do.
Lordy how they do.
Buy "Comfort Eagle" and be satisfied.
