This year, I have really got into Rock music, with Muse, Radiohead (mild rock), Feeder, Linkin Park and Papa Roach. Here's the rundown of my top favourite "rockers".
5. Muse
The music of Muse is the sort that could lazily be labelled as "teenage angst". You won’t find me doing that. "Showbiz" is certainly an album full of passion, frustration and resentment, but has a quality that lifts it far above the traditional “I hate my life” type of music.
As someone who has watched Muse rise in status and success for several years I can certainly say that "Showbiz" is a fantastic progression from their previous work but also, I can be absolutely certain that much more will come from them in the near future that will lift them even higher. I have every faith that this will not cause them to forget their roots in music that rejects entrapment and aims to battle with the despair of unhappy situations.
4. Feeder
The band members for Feeder originally came from Wales, though the band was actually formed by lead singer Grant Lee and Drummer Jon Lee whilst in London. A small while later Tokyo born Takyo Hirose was added to the ranks and Feeder were born.
Feeder started off with an EP called "Two Colours" which was released in 1995 which was quite well receieved in certain quarters though is pretty much unknown and so didn't sell in any quantity. After that they released a 6 track mini album called "Swim". Swim has been rereleased which the addition of several videos and a few extra tracks. After that they released several singles such as "Stereo World", "Cement" and "Tangerine". The album Polythene was released in 1997 and receieved some critical acclaim, again the album never sold in vast numbers, but it would be very hard to call it a failuire - it was a very good album that has since sold pretty well.
In 1999 they released an album called "Yesterday went too soon" - singles released off the album were all well receieved, as was the album itself. Feeder had finally arrived into the more mainstream market.
3. Radiohead
Radiohead definately are one of the most talented and influential bands of the 90's, ranking, in my opinion, up there with Nirvana, Guns 'n' Roses and (although I'll probably get slagged for this) Oasis for brilliance. I do not own any of their albums, as I am a new Radiohead fan, but I have been busy downloading many of their songs, such as "Creep" and the unforgettable "National Anthem".
Thom Yorke is one of the best lyricists and vocalists for a long time and the way he performs the songs is unmistakably unique. Every Radiohead song I have heard has been a joy to listen to.
2. Papa Roach
Yes, I'm ready to be slagged off for having Papa Roach beating Radiohead. The pure reason is because I haven't heard enough Radiohead yet to make a decent enough opinion of them. A few weeks down the road, Radiohead would be either number 2 or even 1.
Papa Roach - the latest nu-metal band to grace these shores. They are as emotional as KoRn (well KoRn's first album anyway) and they are as heavy as some of the classics - Sabbath and the likes. They don't claim, or try to be something they aren't. They do however, do whatever they do very well. Where many bands think that because they play nu-metal, they are instantly gods, Papa Roach don't. They have worked hard for where they are, and they aren't overly confident in themselves which is unusual. They play emotional songs, filled with lyrics that can reach out to the teenage generation. Songs like 'Broken Home', 'Last Resort' and 'Binge' show that. But they are most definitely not a band that would appeal to anyone over 30. That may sound a bit of an old age to be listening to this sort of music, but this music is what a lot of people are dedicated to. when it is not fashionable anymore, Papa Roach and the metal fans will all still be here.

Linkin Park is said by many to be just another manufactured boy band, just this time in a heavier sense. If you ever hear some one say this then they will be very wrong - Linkin Park was formed under the Original name of Hybrid Theory (which later became the name of their first album) and the members met in college and high school in southern California, except the Bassist Pheonix, who joined later, as before they programmed the bass lines in afterwards. They have been together for over five years now but have only just started releasing proper albums since they have been signed to Warner Brothers.
Overall, Linkin Park are a band that if they keep the great music coming, they will go a long way, hopefully the next album will be just as big.

If your dad likes a band you like smash the cd into a million tiny pieces because it is NOT cool. The whole idea of being young is that your parents hate what you listen to and tell you to turn it down. Equally while the Offspring may have sold out, at least they had something to sell out. I get the feeling that Linkin Park never had any souls to sell.

I don't think Radiohead are that great but 'Just' is a good song. Muse are brilliant, and my second favourite UK band. Behind Lost Prophets, with the Phonics and Sunna 3rd and 4th.

YES FIREBALT!!! You're the only other person to metion that Linkin Park aren't a boyband! You know your music!! The next album will be amazing, i hope! Do u know if/where u can buy the Linkin Park Underground CD? And if it's any good??

The Offspring WERE a great band, but since commercialisation have gone downhill. Just like Limp Bizkit.

Anyway, yeah, great to see Feeder got a mention but they should be numbder 1 without any doubt. Papa Roach are great, really good band. I like My Vitriol as well, saw them in April, really impressive. But I have to disagree about Linkin Park. I think they are VERY over-rated.

Anyway, yeah, great to see Feeder got a mention but they should be numbder 1 without any doubt. Papa Roach are great, really good band. I like My Vitriol as well, saw them in April, really impressive. But I have to disagree about Linkin Park. I think they are VERY over-rated.
Yes, Feeders latest album is very similiar style, to the sort of underground thrash metal that we hear from the likes of Steps and Westlife.
I'm so glad Feeder got a mention in that, they should have got the number 1 spot naturally ;-)
