As a fairly avid counter strike source player and having owned many Call of Duty games for both xbox and PC I started to wonder what keeps CS and other PC games going for so long. I also thought If people say COD is the best game ever and there is such a hype for the releasing then why does it die so quickly?

Without a doubt, COD is the most well known game around right now and CS is the first choice for most PC fps players. But, why does Call of duty, for games consoles, have such a short term appeal if it is so popular and why have players on MW2 decreased so dramatically? If so many gamers love it or are addicted then why is there a need for an entirely new game for them all to switch to every year where PC gamers have stuck to their guns for almost a decade?

I thought perhaps console players generally get bored easier with the same maps and weapons where on PC, there are a vast amount of mods with endless variation which gives the game a lot more longevity and depth. There is also the option to hack and play with the console which is always fun (until you get kicked!).

On PC, game servers can be created by anyone and so the whole system of clans is a lot more organised so matches and tournaments can be entered with the assistance of cadred and other sites. A problem for me on xbox, was the lack of being able to choose a custom game where you were plunged into a map with little choice of what you wanted to play; clan matches and tournaments are hard to organise on consoles.

I also noticed that the top skill boundary is much higher on PC games than on console. When I played COD on xbox, within a month I was top of the leaderboard most times where as when I play a deathmatch or gungame on CS I am no where near the top (and I have been playing for 6 months!).

Do you agree with me? If so, what do you think are the reasons for this?

Evening Sodium 23....and welcome to the Forums :¬)

For me, as a PC multi-player only, MW2 lost it's appeal after Prestige 2....just got fed up with the same 'old maps' (including dlc). BOps arrived and I jumped at the chance of a new 'environment'...but this wasn't to be. Finished at Lv50 vowing to never play it again...too many connection problems, a total lack of 'game selection' and 'too many gimmicks'. BF2 was the same - never did resolve the 'connection' problem. But MOH has been a joy and extremely enjoyable...still playing now, maxed one class and now close to the next, in fact I shall be playing soon :¬)

the best multiplayer gaes feature different styles of playing. i understand getting bored of the same map, so try playing a different game type on that map, so instead of playing on rust, having a team deathmatch for example, try having a sabotage game, or a domination game. try to mix it up a little bit. same goes for the guns. switch a few of your guns after every match.
