I have a site which is protected by an htaccess to only allow specified IPs.
This has been working fine up until today, when one of the 'accessees' activated a new broadband connection with dynamic IPs. For some reason, their ISP appears to be randomly switching IPs throughout the day, without loss of connection. They have had at least 4 IPs today, during normal operation.
Therefore, is it possible to apply a similar htaccess line which pertains to MAC addresses instead of IPs, as I know the MACs won't change?
If not, how can I restrict site access by MAC address (I have a feeling this is firewall level and not end user/developer level)?

This is one of the reasons that static IP addresses are so useful!
As far as I'm aware your only option is really to use password authentication.
Another, lot less secure, method would be to allow all the network ranges of the ISP he is using, however as you would expect this means that anyone accessing the site from this ISP would be able to access the site.
Sorry I can't be more helpful!
I'll try to get them to get a static address. Hopefully their ISP will oblige.
Many thanks for that info.
