Ahh, don't you just love that feeling, Reading about 'that' console for so many months, eagery awaiting its launch, you sit there, stairing at the endless pictures of the black box, the games right in your face, the power, the possibilities, the life changes.
This Black Box promised us power, but how can we define power?, by how strong something or someone is?, does this mean that this so called power would change anything?
The possiblities, what would they bring?, would there be so much change?
The mystery of what was to come, did anyone really know know the true and imense power of that little black box?
Did people fear all of its promises?, could people possibly imagine what change it would bring?
Did people know the impact it would have, its games, its strength, its possibilites, all rolled into one to stamp its mark in one place and one place only...our lives.
Fear, fear attracts the fearful, but did this box attract the people who's most wildest dreams it would make a reality?
The days would get shorter, the nights would get longer until this box would cast its shadow over us, that day was november the 24th 2000....
One year on, it seems a distant memory, but now its impact has been so big that it has become our lives..
I hear the faint humming from it, the cd loading, the sound blasting, and then i look at the tv..welcome to the 'thrid place'...
The emotions began just over one year ago, but how much emotion has that engine filled you with?,you think you know how its changed you but you don't, its possiblites may seem limited, but you are wrong,they are ENDLESS...
The minute you opened that box it expanded a change that would gradually change you for many weeks to come and changed the history of gaming along too..
You pushed the button for the first time, you felt the power fill the room, almost so much so that it was taking over your soul as you placed the shiny disk into the tray, you could not control your desire to pick up the pad, you were shaking, as you try to cope with the pressure it becomes so intense you do not know what to do, people are around you, want to forfill that same fantasy as you, you cannot take the heat until...it has loaded..
Bang!, you are there, in the world of that place, working out what to push,where to go, what to do, the sound is pumping, your blood is boiling, your eyes feel like they hav never been shut for weeks, the memories of seeing it have become reality, the sweat is pouring down your face as you gaze in amazement, you know where you are but you just can't put your finger on it, you know where it is but you can't explain it, could that shadow have possibly taken you somewhere beyond your wildest dreams?
The vibrations from the pad sends a shock through your body that wakes you from this world you have been taken to, you sit there, in total mystery as to what you have just witnesses, your hair is on its end, you suddenly shiver at the place you been taken to, you want to leave, but you just can't, its dragging you further and futher away from your life, until it has you in its grasp..
Your life is changed, you want to visit that world again, but you ask yourself "What is that place?", you can't explain what you saw or what you experience, but you cannot explain it, the experience is unique, it cannot be imitated or beat, it has its own style,personality,feeling and talent, it won't let go you get pulled towards it day by day, week by week, year by year, all you can see is the darkness, you can't see through it or get past it, its a neverending path..
A year passes, you feel the changes and power getting more and more apparent, the experience becomes more real,intense,unbearable, it shakes you up inside, you get a fresh feeling each time you play a new game, getting that wow factor each time its life is getting longer and longer, you know that now that box is your life, you rely on it as if it were one of your friends, it is your shining light, you look up to it as a landmark, a piece of history, something that will live with you for years to come, you will cherish it until the shadow passes you by.
The games it provides are flooding, the shadow is getting bigger and bigger, people are living the experience, it holds the 'grey' that you remembered, the movies you have always wanted to watch and re-live, it plays the the sound that you like to hear, its possibilities are now becoming apparent, all of that mystery just one year ago is now finally starting to make sense, it will soon been driven even further and further, internet will be taken to new heights, new experiences will be made, it will change the face of gaming forever, lifes will never be the same again, it has taken 'change' to a new level of meaning, reality will take that next step, AI will evolve, its impact has been made, but will continue to spread so quickly that competition will fear its presense, its aim is to be the biggest force to be rekoned with, it has something to prove to the world and you have helped it prove it, people will be amazed by its ahceivements, its success will be measured by people, the shadow must grow, and you must live inside of that place...
You will remember that time, and that place, as if it were a holiday, it won't seem a distant memory, it will be there somewhere inside of you for the rest of the life you will lead, its made a change in you, one that you can only each indivdual will have experienced, we have all experienced it here, we have noticed the change, it has defied reality and brought the most complete experience in which you could not have imagined, the time has come to live yet another year, brace yourselves for another ride inside world..
Remember that first day... when that shadow casted over you and became more than a fantasy,it became an experience and a reality, you were welcomed to a place..that place was the third place and who lived there? the playstation2

Good post mate, When i first got my PS2 I was blown away from the demo disc and thought it had a great future ahead, sure it's had it's ups and downs but it really is a terrific console.
Good post there and I must say that my experience with the PS2 must have been one of the best in my life. The PS2 brings joy into many homes and it certainly brought a lot of joy to my home. Even in the old Megadrive day I knew that the technology is going to advance a lot in the next few years but I never imagined that a feast like the Playstaion 2 is just around the corner.
I have read so many magazines and watched so many videos of all the best PS2 games, that I knew exactly what I wanted and what I thought wasnt worth my cash. I played some of the games in my mind and I was basically obsessed with the PS2.
I remember exactly the day I got my PS2. It was one of them hot days in the late June/early July. I have finished my exams and was relaxing. It was basically just the start of my holidays and I had a lot of spare time. I was playing tennis with my mates when my mum phoned me saying that the PS2 has arrived. I finished my game and ran home to open the packet. I played Formula 1 2001 and the demo and I was amazed at the graphics.
But it was about 4 months later that I really started to enjoy the experience. With games like GTA3 and Pro Evo Soccer, my PS2 isnt hungry for new games like it was in the summer when I only had 2 games. Now I have 7 and there are at least 4 more coming in the next 3 weeks. The games are getting better, and consequently the experience is getting better as well.
The PS2 is a very powerful console and what we are seeing now is only a tip of an iceberg. Imagine the quality of games we are going to see in 2,3 or even 4 years. Most of them would be compatible with the internet play and people will be able to kick someones a** who isnt even on the same continent as them.
So there is a lot more to come in terms of sheer enjoyment for us PS2 owners....and we dont even know what awaits us in 2003!!!!Well we know FIFA will be there for sure....
So lets enjoy this experience while it lasts and hope that it will last for a very long time.....

"The Black shadow" is a good name to use aswell and you could never expect what you would be getting from your PS2 until you actually turned it on and played with it
