Over the years we have grown very close to good looking games. If a game comes out looking like it was created by a one eyed monkey, people would say, its rubbish. The media will give it negative points for bad looks etc,so people would stay clear.
But in some games, do we need lush graphics. We have games that move so fast, you dont have time to stop, and look around at the beutiful gaming universe that has been created.
I never really thaught this before, until I played the extream G3 demo. The game moves so fast, you dont have time to look at anything except your vehicle. What you do see, moves so fast, you dont have a chance to apreicate it. Its the same for wipeout fusion, now were getting faster games, do we still need graphical heaven? In older futuristic racers, like previous wipeouts and the rollcage series, the gameplay was fast, but not by todays standards. so we had time to see the levels clearly, but not anymore.
I bet, that the guys and gals behind wipeout fusion, are spending all their time on improving graphics, that we will only look at for a split second. I understand that it all adds to make it a more realistic game with great attention to detail, but is it worth it?
Its not just future races im here to talk about. Dancing games is another genre that doesnt need advanced graphics. Even though games like jungle book groove party and dancing stage euro mix havent got GT3 standard visuals, they do have lots of animations. But you dont get to look at the creators artistic skills, as your too busy keeping your eye on what button to push next. or your looking at your feet as you dance around like a headless chicken on a dance mat.
So why do developers spend so much time over the graphics in games, where the chances are we wont even look?
Even though I say this, if a future style racing game was released with big standard graphics, I would be put off, even if I wouldnt look when playing. Im not sure why, maybe im incredably shallow, whatever the reasen, its true. if at the same time this game was released another came out with state of the art visuls, I would go for that, and say its cooler than the other side of the pillow.
I guess, we are just acustomed to great gameplay being hand in hand with amazing graphics. If one game is all gameplay and no graphics or vise verser, it would feel out of place, and would not be very popular.

I think you are right. Have you any suggestions on a different forum i could use which would do the job?

Take a good looking game = Beautiful girl (or boys if you are female)
Bad looking game = Ugly girl
Gameplay = How good they are at kissing (lame i know, but it is on the fly, so think what you will)
A lot of people will go for the beautiful girl, yet the gly one might be the best kisser in the world, and no one will ever find out. Graphics do affect peoples judgement, before they get to the real gameplay.
I've always liked games, but up until the past year or so I've always thought something was missing, and now I know what: truly excellent graphics.
Of course, gameplay is important - but I've always found that gameplay improves the better the graphics are.
Concerning games like WipeOut Fusion: if there was bad pop-up, you'd notice that.
This game will probably be smooth and crisp with beautiful lighting FX, and no doubt will be a big improvement on the PSone versions.
So even though we won't have too much time to appreciate the visuals, the fact that nothing horrible will stand out in the corner of our eye as the craft zips along is because of solid, well-executed graphics.
