I asked this question a couple weeks ago and didn't get much of a response. I am looking for a game along the lines of the old Ninja Turtles or Sega's Golden Axe... a game where 2 people can play towards the same goal on the same screen (no split screen). I don't care if it is hand to hand, gun, swords or what. The Gauntlet games were like this, but I am looking for something else. If anyone could PLEASE!!! help I would appreciate it. Thank you
i guess they don't make games like they use too, nowaday most multiplayer games are split screen, but i remember playing a shootem up just a little while ago on ps2, gah i forgot the name but its single screen two player shootem up like u say.

Contra is top stuff, as long as you are into your retro gameplay. Wreckless has also got a same-screen 2 player mode: but it's a bit nutty, and the rest of the game is pretty unremarkable.
Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars also has quite an entertaining co-op mode. One person drives the chariot, the other guy stands on the back and fights the other charioteers. It's worth it if you can pick up a cheap 2nd hand copy somewhere.
Then again, Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, Bonanza Bros and others are getting re-released through Sega 'Ages' and should be available on the PS2 in the not too distant future.

You might want to try out 'Contra: Shattered Soldier'. :)
