Every so often the sound becomes distorted and "reverberates"; there is no conflict sayeth the device manager but somethings amiss. I have one of those inbuilt thingies. Probably time to get a proper card but I wonder if I'm missing the obvious. The drivers are ok and i'm using Direct x 8.1...

Whats the inbuilt card? I had an inbuilt SoundBlaster 128, and it was poo.
It did the same thing you are describing. I then bought a SBLive Platinum thing, and all problems were solved.

Yeah have ordered a "non cpu draining" soundblaster 4.1 card, should be here tomorrow...£30 bargain I hope.

My soundcard messed up.
Whole PC had to be re-fixeylated.
