Have you seen the new… well old, Pokémon Crystal banner? While you are all ranting on about if Harry Potter should get smashed wiv a stick or not there has been other issues that I have been pondering about.
Pokémon, you catch little monsters, train them, make them fight, get them up a few levels or so and then you beat the elite four and win the game. I thought, it was pretty good. I mean it was addictive. Ok, at the time that Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow came out I didn’t have a Gameboy. I had downloaded the emulator and rom. All in all, a very neat game.
There is this game, you don’t know anything about it only that Japan liked it. Its called Pokémon. Would you go out and buy 2 copies of the exact same game (Basically) but they were just in a different colour? I think not. This is very cheeky actually, I mean who would even think about releasing 2 copies of the same game just changing the colour of the game?! Ludicrous.
I know of….. A lot of Pokémon Merchandise, Pokémon toothbrush? Pokémon clothes?! Did anyone see Zelda clothes or Goldeneye Clothes in the shops? No.
I believe that Pokémon although it was a pretty good darn game was just a bleedin’ money spinner, that paid off. Big time.
Goldeneye is released. Did you see Goldeneye 2 right next to it? Then in a few months did you see Goldeneye Gold, or Goldeneye Silver? No. I think not.
So why would anyone even dare release 2 copies of the same game and not get laughed at? It beats me. But, they Nintendo knew it was an addictive game, but I mean is 2 copies of the game actually nessasary?
You see, Pokémon Red and Blue. Ok. Then you hear of talk about Pokémon Gold and Silver? And when you are not looking they put Pokémon Yellow and pinball on the shelves? The nation was gripped with Pokémon fever. That, is the most sort after thing in the gaming world.
You get your game out. It goes well. In fact it goes absolutely insane! It goes super crazy hyper drive and the whole nation is just held in your power. They are all wetting themselves when they even hear of another game coming out. That is when you know, you know that you can “Play” with the market. You can start releasing extra so called “Important” add on’s to the game. You can start releasing merchandise which is just so damned unnecessary but you the stupid people will buy it.
So, back on track.
I now saw this new Pokémon game, called Pokémon Crystal. I basically thought WHAT THE HELL?! There was no news about nothing… Until I actually watched one of those ad’s about Pokémon Crystal. But, still, it didn’t kick in, I didn’t see little kids running around shouting “I want Pokémon!”
The games after Pokémon Red/Blue were just really riding on Red and Blue’s success. It worked. But not to well, I don’t see any “Sold Out” Signs on the shelves where Pokémon used to be. I don’t see kids outside trading the cards. I don’t see, anything. No Pokémon related stuff anymore.
It has died. You can rant and rave that its still alive but not as much as it used to be. Not anymore. Its gone, forever :o)
This, is basically what Games companies are doing with sequels. They make a blinding first game. And when they have all the cash and become “Fat Cats” They no longer can be bothered making a decent second game. This goes for films to. You hardly see a good sequel after the first film. Aliens and the Terminator series are the only good ‘uns.
Has this “Trend” also been adopted by Sony? With their PSX being a total sell-out they then released PSone. It was smaller, neater but it did the same job as the PSX but people still bought it because it “Looked Good”
The PS2, was a rightoff at the start of its career with the only goodish games were SSX and Tekken Tag. The PS2 sold but it didn’t deliver the goods at all. There were no longer “Sell Out” Signs on the shelves where all those PS2’s were. There are no longer people selling PS2’s for Ł800 in the Free Ad’s. It had died. It had gone… But… Sony got their finger out and the 3rd Party developers kicked in, and boy did they have fun. The PS2 has steamrollered back into success. Can Pokémon do the same? No. They will not and cannot.
So, riding on the success of a previous game or console does not give people the right to make shoddy consoles hoping that people are hooked on the first console/game they will buy it.
Pokémon, its gone and all that cheek with it :o)
Thanks for reading
GasMask.
Shame.
Oh yea, er-no, your poem was excellent :o)
> If there wasn't a demand for these type of games, then they wouldn't sell,
> likewise for the spin off merchandise. Just look at Digimon, only popular
> because of Pokemon, but that shows how much of a need there was for these type
> of games.
It's only like fighting games, they're all pretty much the same,
> with odd differences here and there, but ultimately Tekken 1,2 & 3 weren't
> that different.
Digimon was created before Pokemon in Japan, although as you say it was Pokemon that made Digimon rise.
Now I go and continue to draw the plans of my er-nomon.
It's only like fighting games, they're all pretty much the same, with odd differences here and there, but ultimately Tekken 1,2 & 3 weren't that different.
> Yea, bit like marmite eh. I am not saying that I hated it. I
Its just that I

Thanks for

Heh.. thats ok GasMask. I just thought I would do mine in the style of a poem... lol :-D
Its just that I knew like every kid bought all versions. Red, Blue and Yellow.
Thanks for the reply's.
As for gold and silver strafex yeah a Year and a half over here it took 4 years for the sequel to Pokemon red and blue to appear in Japan.
Pokemon is something you love or hate.
A game where you catch the ones you want to keep.
Its like a female on the forums appearing like Mystique.
Something rare which we all dream about.
A monster to simply just scream about.
The inventor of this game once said,
'Pokemon the game is something that will never be dead'.
Sadly I can see the dream fading out.
Until the GameCube gives it its final shout.
Bugs, birds and creatures all over the place.
Pikachu, Blastoise and
Blue, yellow, red and green
Your Pokemon once trained could be very mean.
Silver, gold and now even Crystal
Why doesn't one of the Pokemon, carry a pistol?
Its something we have all seen.
The Pokemon advertisments all over our screens.
However, you cannot compare it to Potter.
As Pokemon has taught children more than a-lot-a
When I was a kid I used to collect bugs for a race.
The ones that lost, I would jump on and squash all over the place.
Pokemon has taught children how to care.
Dogs are being named Pikachu, how can you say thats unfair?
Its something which I will always want to remember.
Two years ago, when I brought it in December.
The game which let me train up my team
When silver came out though, I didn't scream.
I had seen it all before, the game with the 'mon.
Pikachu, Raichu and even the Electron.
Although you people say its a cheek.
Let me say now, its got gaming to the peak.
So when people ask you, what won the console war.
The answer may sound a little poor.
'150 little strange creatures'
'Each with their own incredible features'
'Thats what helped Nintendo lead Segas demise'
'And eventually The Big N's rise'
Next time you go to look at the 'mon
Remember they changed the way in gaming for everyone.
Its not very often you get a game alike that.
I think one of them, did look like a cat?
Thank You
Joby
lol
For Pokemon Red and Blue, you weren't meant to buy both games. You buy one, your friend buys the other and you can trade for Pokemon that only appear on each version.
It was a superb idea which worked a treat and added a spark to the collector's theme of it all.
Some people went and bought both versions but if they're that stupid, they deserve to be ripped off.
Pokemon Yellow was a bit of a cash though, but there was clearly demand for it.
Gold and Silver didn't come out until a year and a half after Red and Blue, and were significant improvements and great new adventures with even more to catch than before and new elements to the game such as the day/night element (pokemon come out at different times of day) and various things happening on various days.
I know that the Pokemon craze was over franchised and I bet many people got sick of seeing Pokemon this, Pokemon that here there and everywhere.
Well I don't care for the franchising.
I don't care that the N64 games were cash in's.
All the Gameboy games were first class and if you DID get ripped off by buying both Red and Blue or Gold and Silver then you deserve it for being such a dimwit!
