Yep, in case you hadn't heard about this, Sega in Japan are making more Dreamcast units for the Japanese gaming public. It's a bargain console over there at around £50, and there's none left so it seems a good idea so long as Sega remember that they're there to make a profit.
I don't see how many new games will be released though, with the X Box and Game Cube joining the PS2 in the console sales race, the Dreamcast will still effectively be dead in the water, or at least just floating there. We all know why the Dreamcast 'died' don't we...
"Hi have you got a Dreamcast?"
"No it's crap"
"Ah, talking from experience then"...
People, like you and me were annoyed that the Dreamcast didn't pull through to be a decent rival for the Sony Counterpart, even more annoyed that everyone said the Dreamcast was crushed before the PS2 was even released - pompous attitudes, EA's neglect and a lack of retail support was a partly to blame for it's demise, which was a shame because they're have been some absolutely groundbreaking, genre defying games released on the console - games which will definitely be seeing sequels of on the new wave of games machines. I can't be bothered to argue that the Dreamcast has better games than the PlayStation 2 anymore - the PS2 has really started to justify the expenditure with some cracking titles being released, but it's always sad and demoralising to be 'part' of the losing team, especially when you feel everyone else is against you.
Sega for all their stupidity, actually cared about making games and in my opinion their in house development teams produce some of the best, if not the best console games and experiences in the industry - Sonic Team being a prime example with such amazements as Phantasy Star Online, Sonic Adventure 1/2, Samba De Amigo (And Nights on the Saturn) that really have something special about them. They may not be the most successful company ever, but hopefully they're finding their feet in Microsoft's, Sony's AND Nintendo's shoes, and will make future games just as well on these consoles. Sega are a games company, their console 'failed' after only selling 10million Units (that's not really that bad is it..) but it does bring a smile to my face when I hear such things as "Dreamcast lives".
The Dreamcast didn't die, it may never have pride of place amongst Europe's and the USA's game store shelves, but at least the Japanese can see that it really is a truly superb games console. Dreamcast lives :-)
Now has never been a better time to get one in my opinion - they're as cheap as the PlayStation One, have so many games available for it, at giveaway prices and with recent releases like Head Hunter, Virtua Tennis 2, and the best game of all time - Shenmue 2 (play this, it's amazing), I'd feel sorry for you if you thought it was 'crap'.

Oh yeah, good post, by the way, Snowy {:O)
