According to Ken Kutaragi, he wants to make his console more than just a console but the thing is the people who will benefit most if his idea is a success is not us European gamers (we'll obviusly benefit from it after like one year after the Japanese and Americans have) but Japanese and now American gamers (thanks to the xbox).
I dont know if it will succeed or not because we always come last in the entertainment industry but will Ken Kutaragi's idea be helpful to us?

SSX Tricky was to be called SSX:DVD because it has extra DVD footage of behind the scenes and the making which i thik is really cool
The playstation had a cd player cus it played CD soundtracks anyway but having a DVD player/games console combo is a big no-no, it just complicates matters but i was suprised how much people use it, magazine dvd's, extra dvd footage for games and a quite excellent mpeg2 decoder for FMV's and Movie's :-)
I suppose this is how Gamecube has an advantage in the console market, as it is billed as a GAMES console. Rather than a make your toast and vacuum your floor console.
I think it is great that the PS2 is not just an "ordinary console". If you go to rent out a film ( like i did) on video more then likely it has been rented by someone else, So you can just ask for the DVD one instead which is helpful
