I've now pieced together a site using pure html, and despite having stayed up longer than i'd planned ironing out problems, and cleaning up links (3am remember!), it feels good.
And 2 days ago i didn't have a clue about html : )
If you want to take a look at the site, it's at this address:
http://huw41.tripod.com/pages/huw41
Not really anything by way of content, but it was more intended to try out some of the stuff i've learned.
(The plain background before the proper one was just something suggested in a tutorial to make the page look nice while waiting for the proper background to load)
Also, if anyone knows where there's a tutorial on arranging text on the page, it'd be great if you could put the link around here.
...and i'd like to thank my parents, without whom...

PHP vs Pearl..... I'd go with PHP!!
As for the CGI language...
Don't learn perl, at least not now. It's quite hard to understand and I'm sure you'll find PHP much easier (sorry Tyla). Knowing the basics of PHP (variables.... that's it) and the mail() command, you can setup simple mailing scripts. That's all that anyone really uses CGI for that doesn't do dynamic sites and PHP is the easiest language for learning how to do it. What's more, I could easily teach you here. So, give me a shout if you want to give it a go, I'm sure you'll find it fun :-)
Pfht, welcome to the world of techieness, luckily, I dont webdesign, much prefer hardware. Although I do know some HTML, I suppose I should do another one of those tutorial thing to refresh my memory, then its on to PHP and stuff, wonderful..
Ugh, tables. Just as soon as i get my head round the forms tutorial (not about to learn a... *leafing through notes* CGI language to make it work yet), i'll take a look.
Thanks for the align tag - thre won't be any problem using it at the same time as align=top/middle/bottom (/something to wrap that was made after the tutorial i used?) for images will there?
Presumably if the align for the text is at the top of the paragraph, and the one for the image is in the img tag, it won't be a problem.
Oh, and it was an empty tag? (No /tag, in case my terminology is wrong)
Keep at it and remeber to enjoy it!!
other wise... It's CSS or tables and that's getting a little complicated...
