I stumbled across this code to add a falling snowflake effect to a website using javascript:
Snowflake code
Although I add it to my homepage html code it does not show up.
What can I do to get this working?
Cheers
Steve
I guess it's like anything tech based these days - people just like to see how far they can push things! Whether it's an iPhone or a Website; it's always nice to get a bit more out of it :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s] My Freeola InstantPro Site They are mainly for testing Instant Pro/my limits.
And InstantPro is simple enough we think Hmmm... but you are talking about "hacking" it to implement features it is not intended to, so it's never going to be perfect/simple.
When editing the HTML directly the editor often treads on your previous work :¬(
I didn't know you had an InstantPro site Warhunt :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s] My Freeola InstantPro Site Bear in mind we still don't suggest it though, and won't be supporting it fully should it cause issues with the issues (though it hasn't done on any of mine so far (ish))
looking on the same site as before they do a version that is a downloadable .js file
All you need to do is call it with the following line:
<script type="text/javascript" src="path_to_script/snowstorm.js"></script> This pasted into the editor as html will work!
Note that putting any other variables will not, but you can open the .js file in notepad and make any changes there. I changed the snow to a blueish colour to better show on my site.
I downloaded the file to some other web space I had and changed the path to point to it. You *could* link straight to their example but thats not very ethical. I don't know how to upload a file of that type to our Instantpro site.
I found the best place to insert the code so it shows for all pages on your site is in the web site design editor and editing the footer text.
Hope this can help other people in getting other javascript things to work.
You can use JavaScript in some places on an InstantPro site.
In a 'Skyscraper' for example. I had a play but the snow only shows in the Skyscraper which isn't much good! But I guess could still be used to some effect. Perhaps with a Christmas message in the Skyscraper...
Some of the other areas are 'hackable' so it would be good to see what you find.
You can insert/embed FLASH *snow* but I didn't find anything that was worth repeating :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s] My Freeola InstantPro Site I hope work can progress on the plugin soon, off now to see what, if any workarounds exist.
Unfortunately the use of JavaScript is limited with InstantPro - but Freeola are working on an InstantPro JavaScript Plugin which will hopefully help in the OP's (Original Poster's) situation :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s] My Freeola InstantPro Site The Java and InstantPro subject has been covered many times on these forums (struggling to find the links), but a quick search should answer the question/ show you a few tips pointers.
I've just tested that JavaScript code and it works fine.
I've added it to my recent snow photo page.
Have you checked you've cut/pasted the code correctly?
Are you able to link to the page where you are using it?
NB. I'm assuming that you have a normally hosted Freeola site and not InstantPro?
