...have something very much in common: there are too many of them alike, in the sense that they bring nothing new to the scenery, just the same boring and cheesy crap everyone's witnessed before. Videogames on the other hand aren't that bad, but the majority of them have failed, mainly because of what you would expect it to succeed from - originality.

Boybands are really, REALLY annoying. It started with just one, and then two and now it's spreading like a contagious disease in which I'm not very attracted to. The music sounds like something composed using household appliances and their voices are simply fake and manufactured. All they (try to) do is dance on stage, miming their unimaginative lyrics that even a monkey with a banjo could conjure up.

Unfortunately, the games industry is quite similar to the music industry. It manufactures games that lack quality just for the publicity and money. Every time I go searching for a new game around the shops near me, all I can see on the shelves is an abundant amount of titles I would not buy, because I know how and why they are there. It's these sort of games that are spoiling the goodness of originality, for the plain fact that there's too many of them.

It's because of they started to increase that boybands started to become greatly criticised, which then made it easier for us to spot how bad they really are, and hate them. If there weren't too many, I don't think people would really be bothered, but now a pattern has emerged from the growth, showing that they're really not that talented; it's all because of looks and not the music itself.

There are the popular games around like Metroid Prime, Halo and GTA Vice City that have been uniquely established and well accepted by certain fans because they take originality to great lengths, adding more innovation, whereas other titles simply use originality as an excuse to be put on sale. Take Taz: The Tazmanian Tiger for example. Not a hugely popular game, and I'm not surprised. All it's done is taken the norm out of several other platform games like Crash Bandicoot, with a bit of Jak&Daxter and not at all focused on greater additions to the genre. Why not include other types of collectable items, power-ups and so on? Why just stick to what's already been done? That's what lets this title with potential down - when it doesn't maximise it.

This is how games and boybands are very similar. Because the average amount of games produced these days is not so good, we tend to immediately place a negative attitude towards them before purchasing. We tend to think that it won't be very good because it's made by a certain developer or because it just doesn't look good, just like boybands. This is classic stereotype in which we cannot be to blame. If more developers spent more time on their game like Konami, Rare, Capcom and so on, then we would have very little reason to be prejudice towards games. And if boybands were not simply manufactured for publicity and money, but for the good music then we wouldn't be forced to vomit once more at the announcement of a new one being introduced.

I know it's a hard thing for a primary developer to do because of the pressure of having to produce games at an expected rate, but second and third party developers could at least take more time on what their making, so we don't have to be disappointed when we buy a half-finished game. That's why I wasn't particularly happy with the Lord of the Rings: Two Towers game. Yes, it played fantastic and looked stunning and everything, but it left out a lot from the film that could have made it an even better game. It only received so much attention for its name, but if there was more thought put into the game then it could easily have become a landmark title, therefore doing justice to the quality of the film.

Although I prefer to see more games than boybands, I would like these games to have a meaningful background from its makers, other than to make cash. We just need more games that have been thought out properly, so we can be privileged to play more games like Shenmue and Halo, which hold an incredible amount of detail. No more churning out boring cheesy boyband crap, but greater quality in the frequent releases of our videogames, so skimming past a group of games on the shelves that aren't eye-catching won't be a chore anymore.

Thanks for your time

The thing is, when you go looking for a new game in the shops, there are always games you glance past on the shelf because you just have the feeling that it's going to be another average title. This attitude is now a habit because so many games have and still are being made in a hurry, not fulfilling all its potential, leaving gamers disapointed. Movies turned into games are accustomed to this.

I think most games will always be released solely based on the want of profit. Some will be done in an attempt to add something new but most will want to cash in. The majority of moive licence games are a good example. There well.
Games will nearly always be similar but the great ones will be those that offer more. Like for example new and improved features that gamers want, not just an update (here's looking at Football games and a few beat'em ups). With the advances in technology here's hopeing that we see some sort of leap forward in gameplay or something.

I think you misread or didn't read the post.

I'm talking about games like boybands that are released for profit only and offer nothing new to their genre, like Ty The Tasmanian Tiger. Other games for example would be Tokyo Extreme Racing for the racing genre and Fifa 2003 for football. These are both dull games of many that are churned out just to make the console its made for look impressive because of the amount of games made for it.

Don't mean to nit pick but you meant Ty the tasmainian tiger, right?

Good points but I think few games will ever have real meanings. Can you see a fighting game being developed for any other reason than to kick seven shades out of the other player. Games will be developed for different reasons but if I enjoy them then I don't mind.
