James Sunderland replaces Harry Mason, the main character of the first game. He cpmes to Silent Hill after recieving a letter from his dead wife to come and meet him there. In search of the truth and driven by the slim chance that she may still be alive, James begins his journey through the deserted and dangerous town. Ooh, spooky!
When the opening cut-scene presents James in a washroom just outside the town, you know right there that this game is going to be something special and never expeirienced before. And then when you finally realise that the game has moved out of cut-scene you will know there is no turning back and you will now be controlling James. The graphics are actually that good. You can't tell a cut-scene from the actual game.
The control system is simple. You can choose 2D or 3D on the options menu and initutive. The camera may command a strange angle at certain times, but you soon appriciate that the developers are trying to give you a film perspective of this. When you leave the washroom for the first time you'll notice (guarenteed), notice that there is new and improved fog - no longer flat and lifeless but deep, breathtaking and completely terryfing. The new inhabitants of this town are the most grotesque, evil, horrible looking people and things you may ever set you're eyes on. James carries a large selection of weapons, with which he can slay these horrible beasts ferociously, leaving large pools of claret and bloody footprints through the places you walk.
To acsess all of the town's areas, James must find maps, keys and solve a handful of puzzles. The puzzles are far from easy and will have you racking your brain for ages. The easyness, you could say all gets put together for the end sequence. 4 good ones and 1 terrible, if you have completed all the easy challenges.
The games olny downfall is all th walking around, especially when not much of it is needed. Although the game has 1 or 2 faults, it still is worth buying and I suggest you get it now. But be warned, best played on the bog if you know what I mean. 91%.
