Just Dance was an amazing success on Wii. Even now it hangs around the all formats charts despite everyone in the country already owning a copy. With this heavy weight on its shoulders, could Just Dance 2 ever hope to succeed in topping the original game?
Monster (Track) Mash
It start well. The track list is far more diverse than Just Dance. What Reggie? No problem, Bollywood? Yep! Recent Pop hits? You bet! Old Classic Rock? Oh yeah! With everything from Tina Turner to Jump In The Line by Harry Belafonte and even recent hits like Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction , Just Dance 2 has something for nearly everyone. Even if you don’t like what you see there are more songs being added to download for 300 points each and every so often a free song will be thrown in as well.
As well as the track list there are new modes to play with. The Just Dance standard mode is back but now has several dancers on screen for many of the songs, being as much a theatre performance as a guide to moving your hands and feet. Songs like Soul Bossa Nova are brought to life in a pastiche of Austin Powers and The Monster Mash Frankenstein dance is hilarious. This also makes it easier for several players to get in to the game, with each copying the moves of the dancer on their side.
Take Me Out (to the party)
Speaking of multiplayer games, Dance Offs can now be easily set up for up to 8 players. The game makes it easy to track the next set of players and will gradually make sure only the best stay in until only one player stands victorious. Don’t be surprised if this ends up getting really competitive when it comes down to the final round though.
Party Mode is a great game to stick on in the background of a party, you set a tracklist and it just keeps itself busy until you want to jump in. You can use it as the background music to your own party but as soon as someone picks up the controller it will track them and they can start playing without having to go through the menus first.
Move Your Feet (and get fit)
Lastly, a Just Sweat mode has been added to help keep fit and lose weight. It’s basically the same game but with a calorie counter and set workouts. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing at all very scientific about this mode but it’s still nice to have the option and may even work to get people fit if it motivates them.
Body Movin'
Tracking of movements has improved since Just Dance but it still lacks the full control of something like Kinect’s Dance Central or Move’s Singstar Dance. However, the game is aimed far more at the casual market and as such is far more accessible than either of these other games. There’s a reason the first game sold so well and probably why the second will continue to do the same.
I Feel Good
Like the first game, Just Dance 2 requires a lack of embarrassment from the player for it to work. It won’t make you in to a dancing superstar just as a Karaoke game won’t make you in to a world class singer, but it’s a great addition to a party and its simple enough for kids and non gamers to get stuck into straight away. Even my four-year-old managed to pick up and play when she heard Barbie Girl by Aqua blasting through the TV speakers.
It’s still not going to appeal to anyone who doesn’t like the idea of dancing games, just like an RPG won’t be for people who don’t like grinding or a driving sim for those who only like Arcade Racers. For everyone else, though, it’s a little slice of dancing heaven.
Satisfaction
If you’re willing to look a fool in front of your TV (and anyone else who happens to be around) and you fancy a good selection of songs to dance too then Just Dance 2 should be right up your street.

Just Dance 2 is easier to get into and, it's true, doesn't track you completely, but it's aimed at people who want to dive in and play and it's still very fun.
Had a go at this at a mates house the other night and ended up changing game within ten minutes. It felt too inaccurate to be any fun for us if I'm honest. Instead he broke out his new Kinnect and we played Dance Central. Great fun!
